baby down

Found one of the babies down in the barn. Thought he was dead until I picked him up. His head is pulled all the way back and he's cold.
I brought him in, tube fed him warm milk, vit B complex, now I have him wrapped in a warm coat on a heating pad.
Anything else I can do?
He's about a week old, Saanen. Came from the sale barn, so I guess I'm not 100% sure he got colostrum.

Keeping him warm and fed is a good start.

Use caution when feeding a cold or chilled baby animal any milk until their body tempature is almost to normal. Their body can't digest milk when they are chilled and or cold. The best way to warm them is to place them in a plastic bag and submerg in very very warm to almost luke hot water and or use a hair blow dryer to warm them up before offering milk.

Thanks, I'll make sure he's warmed up before I give him any more!

When you say head is pulled all the way back, do you mean like star gazing head set? Like arched over his back?? Can you give thiamine to a baby? CD&T antitoxin? Just thinking out loud. Please keep us posted.

I couldn't agree more. Get his temp back up before you give anything else to him.

Well, more of the story.
I was at the sale barn, and when I left an Amish guy was there and had these babies in the buggy with him. Dairy cast-offs, basically, $4 each. So I took 3.
I am hopeless, I know.
I have 2 girls that lost babies, and was going to milk them and feed these. Well, they were doing pretty well as forced foster mommies. Then I had to put them together with 2 other mamas and their twins. That seems to have created too much confusion, all of the babies are sucking whatever they can, and all of the mamas are nervous and fighting..... With a blizzard coming, they will just have to get along.
Well, I think this one is weaker than the others and didn't butt in for his fair share.

ANYWAY, I think I saved him!!!!! YEAH!

His head was reared back over his shoulders, flat out on his side, he wouldn't move, I thought he was dead until I picked him up.
Brought him in, tubed about a cup of milk. Injectable Vit B complex also into the tube, 2 1/2 ml. The wrapped in an old down coat with a heat pad.
After about 2 hours I tucked him in with me under a comforter on the couch. It didn't feel like his feet were getting warm. Finally he raised his head, started to perk up! So I put him on the floor, he wandered a bit, peed, and started looking for a nipple. Warmed up a bottle, and he sucked it down!
So now I have 2 in the house. Far better to me than losing them!

Sounds like you're doing extremely well, congratulations! We always seem to have bottle babies in the house in the spring, even if the weather is warm. They're SO huggable!
