Stacking bales

Just a heads up to anyone who might be going to stack bales, hay or straw, in their pens for extra shelter....
Mine pulled a bale of hay down and squashed her 4 day old buckling with it.
Stuff happens, this is just one more way they can kill themsleves and each other....
Be careful.

I am so sorry to hear that.

In our old barn, we used a "wall" of bales as insulation. In order to keep it from falling, we would secure cattle panels in front of them so the goats could not get directly to them. We were also able to use this as a hay feeder. If we didn't want them feeding on it, we lined the back of the panel with a tarp.

Also, if you stack them in an interlocking pattern it helps too.

Consider yourself hugged! If we've been into goats for any length of time, we've lost one here or there to an accident unfortunately.
