Too bad they didn't take the time to take better pictures for the prices they are asking. And then there's the 'fish tails' from copper deficiency.

If you go to the website, each goat is pictured with breed, date of birth, and a supposed registration number. What's weird is that the numbers don't match the American Dairy Goat Association registration method.

Yeah, I was already looking there. The problem is I can't tell from the pics much except that some they claim to be full Saanen I have my doubt from how they carry their ears.

And I can't get a single one up correctly on the ADGA website with those reg numbers. I'd also feel better about it if they had photos of tattoos instead of names scrawled on collar tags. I mean they have a supposed grand champion in there for 650--- that'd be a really good deal.

I've considered contacting them anyway but to tell the truth their Saanens look terribly short and I can't see who they have the girls bred to.

Anyone from here been out there to take a look?

Horrible photos for the asking price. I didn't see the CAE or CL status of the herd mentioned either. I think if they're going to sell in lots then they're going to have to come down in price.

I've emailed them about health questions and needing to see udder pics. I'll let you know when I hear something back.

The goats all seem on the small side for their breeds.

Agree.

Why do you suppose that a dairy breeder (wishing to sell a milker) thinks that we'd rather see a head shot than an udder photo?

I think I remember divorce being mentioned... it's entirely possible that the half of the marriage that had nothing to do with the goats is trying to liquidate them before being found out. :P

Yep, no mention of CL or CAE neg. The shots of some of the first girls look like they have those sausage teats.....the undesirable kind...on a "grand champion??" Hmm...

I have NOT received a reply to emailed questions. I don't want any of the goats, but I'd sure like to know what it's all about with the weird registration numbers, etc.

Is the whole thing a scam?

I'd guess that it's a bunch of grades someone is trying to convince the newlings out there are worth more than they are. I'm pretty new to Saanens but I sure have studied the standard hard enough to know that I don't see a single one there that I want contributing to my herd genetics.

As I said... I kind of wonder if hubby isn't offing the wife's goats as part of the divorce liquidation.

The registration numbers you look up can be different - I don't know for Swiss, but the Nubians have '00' after the 'N'. *shrug* Have no idea why, but they do that.

I was able to find most of the Nubians, and they are exceptionally well bred. This is a good deal for these bloodlines, if they are bred to an appropriate buck and you get papers in hand.

Look at the younger doelings' sire - chances are these are the bucks they have on hand to use for breeding.

I didn't look up any others, just the Nubians.

Cheers!

Katherine

Information from another forum, by someone who was somewhat involved in an informational capacity early on, indicates this was a start up dairy that has gone south due to the individual not being prepared to milk 1000 goats.
Despite being informed to be careful about diseases, it sounds like they were collected from varying herds and care was not taken. There are likely does from diseased herds mixed in with goats from healthy herds.

Wow. That's a lot of goats. The 7 we have are plenty of work, I can't imagine having over 140 goats to care for. And milking that many?! How would you do that without lots and lots of paid help?!
