Sick goat?

Just got two new Boer does a few days ago. At feeding time this afternoon I noticed one of them sounded raspy. Like a kid with the croup. She is eating, and does not have any discharge from the nose or mouth. I havn't takin her temp yet. I could not find the thermometer, will test first thing in the morning.

Advise please?

Muleskinner,

Sounds like pneumonia to me too. Sometimes the stress from the move can bring it on.
Do you have any antibiotics on hand?

Her temp is 102.6 and her lungs sound clear. My wife is a nurse practitioner, and she took her temp and examined her. We think she has something lodged in her right bronchial tube. Feels hard and rough, like maybe a stone or piece of metal. She is not in distress, is eating and drinking, and getting plenty of air.

Saturday we plan to take a closer look with a lighted scope. Then figure out how to get it out. She is six months old weighs forty six pounds, and is the smallest doe in the herd. I bought her and her sister from a rancher for one dollar per pound. I don't have much invested, and don't want a huge vet bill.

By the way I bought the two does, and she gave me three weathers. They are all big and fat and healthy. Naturally the doe I paid for, and hope to raise kids from has a problem.

is the hay or bedding dusty? lung worms? did she come from cl free herd? (abcsess can be in lungs and you would not see fever)
she seems to ba very small for her age. if she truly is boer, she should be at least close to 100 pound by now.

I am in southern Arizona, everything is dusty here. The ranch I got them at is a pretty rough place. The goats are penned at night but run in the brush during the day. They get a little hay but no supplements. This doe is a runt, but she is putting on weight fast in the two weeks I have had her. Her temp today is 102.5 and the raspy sound is nearly gone. When I hold my head close and listen is seems to be comming from her throat not her lungs. The lump is gone. My wife looked down her throught with the scope and it is clear.

My little herd of fifteen gets good alfalfa in the morning with a ration of alfalfa pellets with grain added. Then at night more alfalfa with a ration of senior feed horse pellets. We compared the senior with the goat feed, and the senior has more copper and vitamins.

There is a huge market for meat goats in Phoenix, and I have to room to graze, so I plan to keep about two hundred and sell to the 4H and meat market.

Sorry, I don't have a camera so no pictures.
