I had to take a chance

I am not happy with my decision but I feel it was a no-win situation. I have an alpine doe that was just bred to a sable buck about 2 weeks ago... thats the good news... the bad news... she has horns and can get mean with them. I had her separated from my other does (one is due beginning of Feb), but she kept breaking through the fences using her horns! I could not keep her penned up for anything! And when she got in with the other does she would beat them up! Soooo.... I went ahead and banded her horns today. I hope it does not hurt the breeding that just happened... :/

Such a crummy situation. I hope the banding works well, and peace will reign soon in your herd.

as long as everything else remains the same the bands shouldnt hurt anything, if you got them down close enough to her skull they will do the job in a couple weeks, chances are good after a week or so they will be imbedded in the horn growth rings and then given a little more time if she whacks something with her head a horn will come flying off and scare the hibida jibidys out of her and she will be VERY CAREFUL after that

Totally agree here. Best of luck with her!

Hoping for the best for you. Interested to hear how it goes. Our one horned doe, I've been so tempted to band them. Especially since she ripped the end off one horn and it was a real bloody mess to clean up.

I have banded several does that I have purchased, the problem with this one is she is so close to having been bred I am afraid of the banding not allowing her to "settle". Its highly likely that it was her last chance until fall to get pregnant, and I really wanted this breeding I just could not keep her seperated but also could nor chance her getting my other pregnant does....
I do hope you all are right and everything will "settle" out just fine
