Is this the goo you guys talk about?? picture, not pretty

OK, here is what I found on my pygmy doe this morning, I was expecting Muffin to be first, so I was a little surprised when I saw this as I was checking the butts and udders of my girls. She has a small udder but bigger than it was- i think it is just now developing. Since I am still not sure on the ligament thing, had hubby feel for them, he said he thinks they are still there. She doesnt have diarreah and is eating and drinking fine. But the goo has a red/brown tint to it, looks just like when cats are about to have thier babies and I have seen that hundreds of times! So is this what it is supposed to look like or should it be white. How long until they have babies at this point.

goo can mean within hours or weeks, so don't kill yourself; just breathe and plan!

found this on fiasco farms under signs of labor

Long clear string of "goob" (mucous) hanging from the doe's vagina. If the goop is amber, it is amniotic fluid, and kidding should happen very soon. (Note: The doe can start having small amounts of opaque white discharge a day, a week or even a month before kidding; this is the "plug").

This is where it gets tricky. The Doe Code means that if we tell you that nothing will happen for a while, your doe will kid by the time you get done reading this post. If we say that at the most you have a day or two, she won't kid for three weeks.

I know, I am so excited, but so nervous also, But I know it will be fine, i just want to make sure they are warm, hubby went to tsc to get some other things, for the kidding pen, which I havent moved her to yet, I was waiting to see if there are any other changes, so I will go back out again in just a bit. I dint think she was in heat before Muffin, but it is all starting to run together now anyways.

My very first kidding I was a nervouse wreck! Not knowing exactly what to expect/look for (of course that doesn't change, you just know a little more )

I came home to find my pygmy doe standing in the corner with yellowish/amber goo strung down to the ground. It was fresh and not dried. I hung out, standing back, so as not to disturb her. After a few minutes I could see the contractions and knew we were good to go! The ligaments were gone, gone, gone.

I didn't have a due date and she started getting a bag in January and kidding March 29!!

But anyway - about 30-45 minutes after the looooooooooooong string of goo she started pushing.

Before this, she was pink, then brighter pink/red behind - with dried mucous. Once those ligaments started loosening - I think it was a week.

I wouldn't really consider that a *string* of goo.. more likely she is loosing her *plug*.... here we USUALLY (not always) have babies within a week, of the plug goo appearing...
here is a picture of one of my does with a STRING of goo.. once the long amber-ish goo starts babies are soon (very soon) to follow... as in right now ready !!! within 15 minutes of the goo picture below, we had triplets on the ground.

Don't forget about checking ligaments! They are the best indicator for me. When they are gone, babies are coming soon! That little bit of dried goo wouldn't have me too excited just yet.

Well it wasnt dry but has finally come off. Just went back out for a while. She is acting totally normal as far as I can tell, so i am not going to ck quite so often, but will put her and another in a seperate pen a little later. I keep checking ligaments and looking at pictures and am still not sure i know what I am feeling. I will just keep feeling them, so that when they are ready then I will surely know. I know last year we had a cat with the same type of mucus and it normally means babies that day, well after a week i took her to the vet and they said they were alive and didnt know why she was bleeding for a week and hadnt had them, the next morning, she was preg and I fed her, went back out less than an hour later and there was 3 kittens all dead. They were of course beautiful too. Then about 3 months later she had kittens again this time she had 6 and we still have them all. So I was a little concerned about ZOE. I will just keep checking on her and let you know if there are any changes.

here are the pics I posted last year on the day Amelia kidded. Someone had been asking exactly where to feel for ligaments..(with so many folks on baby watch again.. thought they might be helpful again this year)
Amelia (ff) was on day 149.. ligaments gone.. no goo at all.. felt of her, ligaments gone, ran & got the camera & took the pictures.. she turned around and headed to the barn.. within 20 minutes she had given birth to twin doelings..
(no goo at all, but notice the sunk in/empty spot on her right side.. that baby had already dropped into position. Day before Amelia was still round)

Great pictures for pygmybabies to see how to check the ligaments Susie. I know when I was just trying to figure out the ligaments & how to check them I checked preggo does' & not preggo does I think everyday for quite awhile till one day I checked a pregnant doe & my finger tips touched each other & I knew they were gone.

Don't stress pygmybabies, breathe, try & relax cause like most goats she'll probly keep you guessing for a couple more weeks.

After watching them so long she'll give you other signs too & you'll just know something is differnt in how she's acting, etc.

Well, she didnt kid yesterday and still acting like nothing. I am kinda glad, cause I want quite ready for it yesterday, was thinking I had 2 more weeks or at least one week if they came early. Today my order of supplies came, made a trip to the feed store, and the kidding pen is all up and ready to go! So now i will ck for ligaments on all the does, wether I think they are preg or not, several times a day so that I will know what it feels like when they are not there. Then if I have to leave I will put Zoe and Muffin in the kidding pen just in case. Those two hate to be seperated. Muffin was about a year and half when we got her and zoe about 8 weeks old, and we got them the same time, so they both came togther to a new place and Zoe is Muffins shawdow, in fact when we took zoe in to show her the pen they cried for each other.
Got a couple of items i need to still order but they are not critical.
She still has a little tinge of brownish discharge but not like yesterday.
I will keep you posted and hopefully they will give me another couple weeks and it will warm up outside!
