What price???

I have 2 purebred pygmy buck goats,(not registered) currently a month old. I do not want to keep these. I am trying to figure out what I should do with them (castrate or not) and what to sell them for? Totally forgot about dehorning too!
Our first time with baby goats, our sheep are hornless so I totally forgot all about it.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Pygmy bucklings do not go very high around here, twenty to thirty-five dollars tops. Usually I gave mine away to kids in 4h. I've seen hundreds of them at the sale barn go for 5-25 dollars depending on the meat buyers present, and if they bid up the price.

Disbudded and registered in my area they average around $75. Horned and not register they go from $20-$40 tops....and you only see $40 price tags on smaller than average babies or the occasional on with unique markings.

My mini alpine buck kids can be registered but I decided the effort and annoyance of advertising them to get them sold wasnt worth the hassle. They are going next week to be cut and headed to freezer camp in about 6 months. Perhaps if they would have been an interesting color, I would have disbudded and tried to sell them....but they're plain black, and no one close to me has mini alpines so I didn't even mess with disbudding.

Good luck on getting the boys sold....if all else fails you could always send them to freezer camp...they would be pretty easy to process at home due to their small size.

Best Wishes,
Crystal

I give away bucklings asap after they are born. By the time you find a $25 buyer you can have hundreds of dollars worth of milk into them. Just not worth it.

The part of Michigan where I am I sell my Nigie bucklings for $60.00 to $75.00. They are not registered. I would think you'd be able to get about the same price where your at too. Try running an ad on craigs list & see what happens.

I've also found that it's much easier for me to sell an intact male rather than a wether in my area.
