Stolen goats!!!

This came from another forum....poor woman, can't even imagine this happening, and what beautiful goats!!I don't know any one from Va., maybe some of you do??

This was posted on a yahoo group. Just wanted to get it posted on here.

Also, if we can get people sending emails out to anyone around the area to help these guys find their goats that would be most appreciated I am sure.

I can't even imagine what they must be going through. Please, if you can send prayers that they get the goats back and are comforted through this hard time.

Here is the email...

This is shout out to all my goat loving friends across the country. My friend, Stephanie L. (Hicks) Quesenberry also known to many of you of Featherbed Farm had her herd of Nigerian Dwarf Goats stolen from her farm in Dugspur, VA on November 7, 2010. They weren't only valuable, but Stephanie has a huge heart and is missing them dearly and would love to know just where they could possible have disappeared to. I'm asking you to put your voice out there to all your friends to hear and post this and these photos (I'll try to get the photos in an album)for all to see. You never know where they may show up. If you have any information your more than welcome to contact me through my e-mail address countrybumpkin63@hotmail.com or send Stephanie a message (maybe through FB), if you happen to know the where abouts of any of these goats. The goat world isn't all that large and thanks to forums like these, it make us all more like family. With all of looking out for them, one of us is bond to run across some of Steph's goats. Thanks, Bob

An entire herd?! That's just insane. We've heard of thieves in our area taking a couple goats or calves, but nothing like that. Sure hope someone out there knows something and can help in the recovery!

We had the same thing happen to us a few years ago. Someone came in and took the entire herd.......right to auction one morning. By time we figured it out, it was too late and sheriff was no help.
Hope they find them.

.....looked for website and only one I found triggers anti-virus programs. Looks like they got hacked too!

OMG That is one of the most terrible things I have ever heard of .. an "entire" herd stolen? (Guessing it was a small herd and the owners were on an extended trip for such a thing to occur; and where were the neighbors?)

I live in Virginia; so will keep an ear open for anything that might connect someone to that theft, though I rarely ever go anywhere; so my help will probably be quite useless. I do hope she find out who took them and get them back. I know "compensation" for loved animals just will not do!

There are people driving by all the time watching...looking for a way to take and make a quick buck...or for food...sad fact. Remember the Florida horses butchered right in their stalls/pastures overnight and just choice muscle meat taken? Yeah..not always a nice world out there. Sad.

Considering goats are going for $2 a pound right now at the auctions in PA it is hard to hold out much hope. I hope they find them though. It wasn't quite as high back then but still pretty high.
I worry with our Prevention babies up by the road but few know there is a farm out here.

I also live in VA and will keep my eyes out.

I don't know Stephanie personally, but I know of her and her farm through other breeders; she has lovely goats and obviously loved them well.

I hope there is resolution to this.

Oh no! That is terrible. I hope they are found safe and healthy. I can't imagine going out and finding my goats gone.

There was also another Virginia farm that had goats stolen on 01/04/11. This farm is probably 1 1/2 hrs from Dugspur. http://www.wset.com/Global/story.asp?S=13805691

I also saw an add on the Roanoke area Craigslist two or three months ago about someone that had goats stolen.

ETA: I knew I had seen another story about stolen goats! This one is from Boones Mill, VA about 30 Min from Roanoke, so that may be what the Craigslist ad was about. It happened 11/16/10. http://www2.wsls.com/news/2010/nov/1...ill-ar-662413/

I was thinking about these three farms. They are not all that close to each other but this seems odd that so many goats have been stolen in this general area.

Are any of you hearing about stolen goats?

I think I need a LGD.

I had no idea there was so much goat theft going on anywhere in the U.S. Very frightening. Just told DH that I'm glad all of ND's are in the barn and not in view from the road. We were thinking about moving the bucks to outside pens this year, but now we're 'rethinking' that...

I ran across a youtube about a stolen goat herd in WI. If I remember right they were missing about 40 goats.

The ND breeder down the road had her champion buck stolen a year or two ago. Just gone. No other goats went missing.

Whoever took it, climbed a couple of 4' fences, walked past about 6 Great Pyreneese, and walked behind her house to the buck pen and left. She's gotten rid of most of her Pyreneese a few months after the incidence. She's been eyeballing some Anatolian/Pyr crosses.

Oh her FB, the culprit has been arrested, and there's a court date for later this month. The person hasn't revealed where they are yet.
