Labor or False Alarm?
Earlier today, Rosie had white or cream goo on her tail and vulva, was very affectionate, wanting to look deeply into my eyes LOL, stretching out her body then arching her back up as her belly got hard as a rock, urinated very often and was pacing and got frantic if she couldn't see me. Couldn't feel the ligaments but not practiced at that. Sounds like labor, right? Went on for 3 or 4 hours that way. Now she's settled down into her straw and chewing her cud. Haven't seen any signs in a while now? I don't know for sure when she was bred, just know the ultrasound shows she is bred. Do they try to fake you out or is she just taking a break? TIA

how long ago was the ultrasound? they can act that way when they are in heat, sound like your girl wanted to scare you. Goop normally means within 24 hrs

I was there at the ultrasound (Hi Carol!) it was Tuesday of this week. It was pretty cool actually~ I wasn't even sure Carols goat was pregnant and the vet says "There is the baby" and pointed it out to me (Carol could see it without help). Hope it's soon Carol but I'm betting tomorrow during the snow.

Me, too, unless it's going to be 2 am during 19 degrees cold Don't you know Michael would faint to wake up to her in the living room?

Don't put her in the living room. Somehow that will come out as my fault and I'll be in trouble. I'm putting it in writing online at 9pm DON'T put that goat in the living room! Michael will never believe it's not my fault!

Yep, if there's bad weather coming on she'll most likely choose to kid right in the middle of it! I personally think that kidding out in the living room would be more comfortable for her and certainly your DH would understand that.

My poor hubby has found more strange animals in the house than I want to admit LOL and has been a better sport than most women have a right to expect. If I decide she is going to need a heated area, I'll probably set her up in the building where I keep the snakes, it's actually much warmer than the house.

What? I have a goat and a lamb in my living room right now and an emergency kidding pen in my garage because I know that doe is going to kid, we have terrible weather coming in and she i think is too small to kid alone and of course Ga is shut down with one inch of snow therefor my vet will be as well

Why aaargh? It's in the 50s in the house (maybe) and 72 in the outbuilding. The snakes are all in plastic tubs and not visible to her, matter of fact, my Indian ringneck lives there too, the house gets below freezing often, and she only frets if I get one where she sees it. It has a tile floor, vs carpet in the living room... I'd rather be dealing with birthing in there...

72 degree temp sounds lovely and I'm certain you and your doe will be comfortable, but I'd most likely have some sort of heart failure around the snakes. You're extremely brave!

He's come home to farm animals and wildlife of all kinds, he said he was just grateful he never found the horse in here... And when the young skunk exploded he did request it go outside! They don't like having an owie cleaned LOL He would tolerate Rosie coming in, even if he would whine, but I honestly think if she needs heat, she and I would spend the night out there.

Oh LOL They are actually very nice. Though hubby built me the outbuilding because he felt the same way about having them in the house LOL Like I said, he's so understanding and sweet!

Went out and looked in on her. Sleeping on her chest with legs firmly tucked under her. Got out some dirty hay (she won't go out for potty breaks at any time) and put fresh in and she grabbed a mouthful and started chewing... At least she did the acting like labor during the day and like not in labor at night. I have a bad cold, so am having to sleep sitting up so I'll be waking up often and checking on her...

Sounds like you have a great guy there! My DH is the same. We've had goat babies in the house multiple times. Although I'm not sure either of us would have been brave enough to bring a baby skunk into the house. I'm sure our vet clinic would have been a better choice, 'just in case of explosion!'

So, still no babies, but with the day came the signs of labor again, adding the yawning, too cute! LOL So, we'll see how it goes with light :-) Maybe she's just being an obliging girl? No laying down, so not getting concerned that anything's wrong... yet...
ROFL! Who do you think sent it home with me? That was looooong years ago when I did wildlife rescue, and I was one of the few people who would work with them. I miss those days Too many permits and paperwork now.
