I just saw an add on craigslist looking for peoples' old christmas trees to use as goat forage! Will goats eat fir trees?? This is news to me...

Mine will eat pine and a *little* bit of cedar. Make sure any trees you get aren't sprayed with green paint or flocking.

From my understanding yes BUT I also read somewhere and this could be wrong if they eat to much there is a good chance that your pregnant does can abort.
And not sure if it is only a certain type of "fir" tree. My goats cleared all the lower branches of the evergreen in the pasture area but since it was here when I moved here not sure what it is.

They like the cedar branches, but they LOVE the cedar bark. Pines too. I'd be leary of christmas trees though unless I was sure they were natural raised and not bought from a christmas tree dealer. Not sure if all do, but some spray with things that are not really visable.

My goats have killed all the cedar trees in their paddocks from eating the bark off of them.

My neighbor has an abandoned Christmas tree farm. I bring home white pine trees to throw on my burn pile. The goats will strip the needles and bark. When all the bark is gone, I burn the remainder and spread the ashes.
