OT -Just when you thought you were safe

Since I hang out here most of all. After being angry and crying, I figured I would whine on a few of my goat friend shoulders today.
I was let go from my job yesterday, I wasn't the only one but the other at least was retirement age so he has it a tad better. I immediately put apps and resume's in everywhere I might be qualified to work.
So now I am trying to keep my spirits up and hope that I can get a job quickly before I run outta feed and bills come due, and house payment etc...
Everyone please keep your fingers-crossed -one job I put in for would almost be at what I was making before and its not very far from where we live, actually closer then before.

Fingers crossed and prayers said for you. I am so sorry this happened especially just before the holidays and during the cold.

Oh no! I'm so sorry!! I'm praying you get a good job soon. Just keep your spirits up. Everything happens for a reason even though it doesn't feel like it right now.

oh, that is such a bummer! i am sorry to hear of it. try to keep in mind the 'one door closes so another can open' thing. sounds kinda kitchy, but it often comes thru. good luck.

Oh, man! That's awful for this time of year and it sounds like it was out of the blue to boot! If a company is going to let someone go right before Christmas, they could have had the decency to give some warning so you could have been looking for something else Grrrrr. Fingers crossed that it'll be a blessing in disguise... And that someday, the new company can take over the old and you can decide who stays and goes... Poetic justice.

I'm sorry Winterrwolf I sure hope the other one near you works out. I know how scary it is and it's good you are trying to keep your spirits up. It's a blow to the self esteem and it shouldn't be because I'm sure it was nothing personal and not your fault. Just bad luck. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you find something quick.

I am so sorry Winterrwolf. It is hard when something like this happens just before the holidays.

The best advice I can give is to cut back now, prepare for the worst, and pray for the best. My son just out of tech school last June hasn't been able to find an apprenticeship job. Actually he hasn't been able to find a job, period. It's hard out there, keep your chin up and you will get through. This too shall pass.

Oh, isn't that just like a governmental agency to let you go in the cold of Winter, and right before Christmas? Grrr....

Praying that this closed door will show another door opening that will be ever so much better for you and your family (two and four legged kids).

So sorry to hear!

I did want to say, try temp agencies. My dad has had GREAT luck with temp agencies to find jobs. He has a summer job that he gets every year, but in between he works for temp agencies. Even here in Michigan there seems to be LOTS of places using temps and sometimes even hiring them in.

Good luck!

Good idea about the temp agencies. Nick worked for Kelly for a while, before he found the job he has now.

I will try some of the temp agencies around here. I am thinking of going back to school to get certified as a vet tech. But that won't pay the bills. Seems that all these places now you have to apply online and then you wait and wait. Not like it used to be in person.
Place up the road (munitions plant) had a job posting for a packer, that would be nice to be closer to home, it pays well, and would be 3- 12 hour days, so really hoping for that one.
But since that is the one I want...
Well seems I finally got a vacation lol

That stinks, and during hay season Too bad you did not get laid off in the Summer, since your goats would have had free food and your "vacation" could have been in nicer weather.

Check your craigs for free hay, some of our nuttier horse people around here give away hay or sell it really cheap since their fussy horses will turn up their noses at it, or there are too many top bales or bottom ones etc etc.

I hope you get that job and soon. Good Luck!

WW- are you eligible for unemployment? Is there any sort of severance package or retraining or any assistance offered by your former employer?

Chris has some good suggestions there!

Hey, another thought: Don't stress out. You're going to get through this, of course, so if you can, try to enjoy the time you do have off work. In fact, I'll bet the more you enjoy your time off, the sooner you'll find a job.

Isn't that always the way?
