stud service with buck pending registration

I found a buck I would like to breed my doe to, but the bucks registration is pending. I really want to breed my girl to her, but I think it is to risky without the buck already being registered. There is another buck whose pedigree I don't like as well but he is already registered. What should I do and why would the buck still not be registered? Thanks

It costs so much to register that many people wait until they are sure the buck will be used and not go to freezer camp.

Unless they are the breeder of the buck, I would run the other way.
It really does not cost that much to register a buck. It cost us $22 just to register our Jersey bull (we waited too long).
If they are using him and offering for stud as a registered buck, then wait until the paperwork is completed and he is in their ownership.
Of course, if the papers are not important to you and you are more concerned with the quality of the buck, then go for it. A lot depends on your goals with the breeding.

We bought a pup with pending registration on the sire. She is 3 years old now. Registration still pending. If it's important to you, use one already registered.

Guess it all depends on the honesty of the owner of the buck....
I recently sold a pair of doelings...not registered..boy did we jump through hoops to get it done...matter of lining up papers and registering with different registries..but as I had said they would be registrable I *DID* make it so....
Nehimama has told me that she has one of the young does bred and I'm eager to see how her new ladies turn out.

Thank you for making it work, Suzyhomemaker! We really did go thru some hoops, didn't we? I'm so pleased with the little girls! They're both bred now; can't WAIT!

I would wait for the registration papers or use another buck. Burned one too many times I guess. There are good honest people out there, but far too many not-so-honest. Have all paperwork in hand at the time of sale/exchange/breeding.

Yes, I must agree to have all the paperwork IN HAND. I once bought a lovely mini-Alpine doeling. Seller said he'd get the registration papers to me. Never happened. Sold the doeling.
