My goats new house

They've had a big, 3 sided shed, but it just seemed too exposed for winter and this place needs all kinds of outbuilding's anyway (I have at least 30 other things I could use that shed for.)
So I built THIS
My goats new house - Goats

I'm really pleased with the way it came out! It used 2 sheets of OSB and 3 new 2x4s - the rest of the materials we had on hand - scavenged from other things.
It took two days of piddling around to build and paint it. If I were to build another and see how fast I could do it, I'm guessing 5 hours of serious work, 8 if I wasn't racing.

It will probably be too small for the pair of them when Erik the wether finished growing as he should end up over 200 lbs easily. But it will happily convert into a chicken coop and give me until next winter to have some kind of permanent goat barn built.

Looks very nice actually. Maybe that is the design I would use for my next housing project.

It is very cute, the door would not last 2 mins here lol as they would bust it open. Yours seem quite happy in there even with the door shut.

I do see one problem with it, you can't fit 10 or so goats in there :smiley-laughing013: you need to think bigger. When I was building my barn it was going to be 12x12 but then I said, it seems too small so I went 12 x 26 and fit in a heck of a lots more goats, lol.

Great job! I'd think they'll be very happy and cozy this winter. MY goats, however, would have that door open in seconds flat - LOL!

Do they have a door they can come out when ever they want too? Otherwise I think it looks nice, they seem to like it too!

Thanks guys!
About the door, it shuts with a hook-and-eye latch that will need to be replaced with something a little sturdier next time I make a trip to the hardware store. But we had it on hand.
LOL, they are pretty happy in there. They "helped" me build it and seem to like it alot.

No, they can't come and go as they please unless I leave the door open for them. But they are only locked in at night and during bad weather. Normally I let them out at sunrise (my DS 16 months does not believe in sleep, so I am up) but it spit and drizzled this morning so they didn't get out till <gasp> 7:20 when I took the picture.
I really, really, really needed something I could lock them in at night as we are repairing and putting up new fence. They take vast delight in finding where the fence needs reinforced at , oh about 5:30 AM.

It was quick and fun to build.
It is 6' long, 4' wide and 4' tall. No floor. So fine for a couple of Nigies but a little .. um .. cozy for big goats I think, unless you wanted to give one it's own personal house for some reason.
But by March they can have their big, open shed back and by next fall I'd like to have a little 12' hex cordwood shed built.

Because I really think I'd like a couple more, I just priced out what it would cost if I had to buy every single thing I used brand new at Lowes and it's about 135.85 priced out down to the paint and screws. That gives you a serious frame and 2 coats of exterior paint inside and out and enough left over material to build a couple of very nice traditional (box and run) rabbit hutches.

I would definitely anchor it to the ground. I thought my 12x24 solid wood run-in shed was too heavy to go anywhere, but it blew over on it's roof a few weeks ago!
