Unhappy Lost one of my babies....

I am just heartbroken and came here because I knew you all would understand.... Warning, this post is pretty sad and icky.

I lost one of my girls the end of last week in one of the most terrible ways I could have imagined. When DH came home from work he came inside pale as a ghost. I just knew something was wrong. He told me one of my goats was dead. I was shocked because they are all very healthy (eventhough I know that just doesn't matter sometimes). She had been killed. By one of my dogs......

We brought a dog into our family almost a year ago. She had shown some aggression to the goats and I feel terrible. I knew this was possible but we had done everything we could to prevent it.

She had gotten her head through the fence and I assume got stuck. She was my only goat with horns. And the dog got her. It was a terrible sight. I don't think I have ever had to "take care" of anything that terrible before. I was in a bit of shock so just kinda became a machine until all was settled.

The dog is currently in a crate under my carport until she can be relocated. I found a place to take her but can not do it until tomorrow. *sigh*

I can't even describe the emotion. I feel guilty because I didn't do something sooner. She had attacked this same goat a couple months ago (on my birthday) but not done to much damage. And the goats were in her pen. She only got one so I convinced myself that she had butt her with her horns or something....

I am heartbroken and sad not only over the lose of the goat but my dog also. She is so sweet. And I can't even look at her right now.

Just needed to share somewhere and knew you all would understand.

Thanks for reading my ramble.....

I'm so sorry you're going through this, and the nature of it is so terrible. I've had dogs kill and maim a couple sheep, but if this happened to my goats it would be so much worse.

Oh.... man....

I am just so darned sorry. This is beyond craptastic, and I don't have any words to say except, "Man, this sucks so bad, and I am so cosmically sorry."

You lost your goat, you're losing your dog...

Thanks guys. Your responses make my heart jump. You are all so kind. I knew you would understand. Everyone tries to understand but unless you have them and really know them you just don't get how much they become a part of you.

5 of the goats that I have/had belonged to a dear friend of mine that passed away last December. This one was her first. She was the queen and a very sweet girl.

The dog involved belonged to another dear person in my life that has moved in with us in the past year and she loves her very much. Bella (the dog) had become part of our ever expanding family.

The whole situation is tragic. We have found a place for Bella and she will be leaving us tomorrow. It is going to be very hard but it is better for all involved.

I was raised on a farm for the most part, my grandparents had a large farm in SE Kansas, and there the dog would have been "disposed of" immediately. That was my initial reaction but I am such a animal lover I just couldn't do it. Unfortunately this is very common.... The shelters were all willing to take her I just had to find one with room.

Thanks for listening. You are all wonderful. I have a facebook page with my Beauty (the deceased goat) as the icon.....

Feel free to add me. I am under Lynda Land and the owner of the page.... I would love to have some goatie people on my page to chat with.

Hugs to you all.

She was so pretty I am so very sorry. Such a difficult tragedy. We had someone on this forum not that long ago (I can't remember the name) that had the same thing happen with her dogs and a goat's head stuck in the fence. Hugs to you during this sad, sad time

I have been grieving for my Coffee for months; I wish I could say it will get easier.

To lose one to your own dog(s) is a heartbreak on top of a heartbreak and is what happened to my pet; my daughter, my beloved.

I am so proud of you for finding your dog a new home. It IS the best option and you will come to know that deep in your heart and it will give you peace.

My deepest sympathy; my heart is broken with yours.

One last update.

Bella is gone. She left yesterday. I hope she has a happy life but on some level I am glad she is not at our place anymore. It ripped at my insides to let her go but at the same time I feel a bit better knowing my goats are not in danger from her any longer...

Thanks again for all your messages. Got me through a few really tough days. You are all amazing.

Life is moving on. My goats are over the incident. I went out yesterday and they were "arguing" over who was going to chew on my shirt. Hehe.

Lynda, I clicked "like" on your page but I don't know which Lynda Land you are (there are several). If you want to add me as a friend, I am under Oat Bucket and my pic there is the same as my avatar here.
