Cool Here they are! (Promised pictures included)

As promised, here are some pictures of the 2 mini-alpine does I brought home yesterday.
1st of all, taking pictures of goats is a lot harder than it sounds! lol Keys is the younger of the two and is VERY "in your face"...in another words, getting pictures of more than her nostrils was a challenge. Tootsie (doe with the white markings) was easier, though she somehow managed to move right as I took pictures, making them all blurry. Managed a few though so here they are...Oh & I apologize in advance if the pics are too big/small. Took & uploaded them on my phone, so I have no idea how they'll view for the rest of y'all.

Thanks to you Alice Wouldn't have found the breeder without your help, so THANKS!!!

They're a lot of fun...my kids adore them & I think Keys outgoing behavior is rubbing off a bit on Tootsie...she's getting braver & already meets me at the gate instead of hiding in the barn. Of course a few cherrios or apple jacks may be the reason she's getting braver..

Keys coat looks a bit "scruffy" to me, especially compared to Tootsie's...I dunno if it shows in the pictures or not though. So I'm thinking I'm going to copper bolus them & give a shot of Bo-Se as well. They were dewormed in August with Ivermectin Plus and since Keys is just about 2 weeks bred, I didn't wanna deworm her just yet (I was told not to give any meds during the 1st 50 days of pregnancy) Hopefully the copper/bo-se will make a difference. Of course there's always the chance that I'm paranoid & seeing problems where there are none! LOL But I figure that the copper/bo-se won't hurt anything since they've never had it before.

Anywho,

Thanks for the compliments...I'm so pleased to finally have them home & can't wait for Tootsie to come out of her shell.

Best Wishes,
Crystal

Im assuming these are nigerian cross because they look like a tall nigerian with alpine colors. They are very nice looking goats!
I would use copper and deworm them, have you checked for lice? That can make for a dull coat as well sometimes

Thanks!!

They are 3rd generation miniature alpines registered with the MDGA ( http://miniaturedairygoats.com/ ). And yes, Nigerians are crossed with Alpines to create the "breed". Wanted alpines since it was the breed I had as a kid & wanted small goats for the kids. The mini alpines fit the bill perfectly...small, but not as small as a Nigerian, and I still get a bit of my Alpine as well

Checked 'em for bugs 'n critters and found nothing...Is deworming safe to do in the early stages of pregnancy? I really don't want to cause Keys to abort or anything since she's only about 2 weeks bred (I was worried about doing any chemicals as I was told doing anything during the 1st 50 days of pregnancy could cause issues). The breeder uses Ivermectin Plus for deworming & they were both dewormed in August...wonder if I should try a different wormer?

Best Wishes,
Crystal

Im not going to tell you to worm your goats, but pyrantel and safeguard even though are giving in higher doses are typically safe for any pregnancies but its wise to fecal after you worm just to make sure its working.

I would not deworm now.

Do the copper and Bo-Se, but hold off on anything else.

Thank you. My sweet hubby used his days off to construct the pen for my goats. It's a 6ft tall pipe corral with cattle panels welded to it on the inside and is 60ft x 40ft. He wasn't keen on getting goats, so the fact that he went above & beyond to make sure they'd be secure was really sweet...Don't buy me flowers...win my heart by building critter enclosures! Haha
