bleeding penis

Currently not bleeding, but heres the story...
6 month old buckling: breeding does in the brush: somehow punctured a hole in the side of his extended penis. Blood was spraying out, not arterial type, just a constant spray. Lots of blood and clots. Finally got the bleeding to stop by direct pressure and "TRYING" to keep him from getting excited so to keep further blood pressure down there away. Gave him a shot of penecillian. Separated him except for his bucky buddy to keep him from stressing out. Going to give him some red cell soon.
So my question: When treating a boy for UC, sometimes they cut the worm off the end of the shaft. How do they control the bleeding? I am currently afraid he will stick it in his mouth and restart the bleeding so we are all taking 30 min. turns watching him for the next several hours.
I am used to either sick animals where medication fixes them, or having to sew up a ripping injury.... Have never even heard of this type of injury before.

I don't know about goats but with dogs you can put a cone on their head to keep them from chewing/licking anywhere on their body. Just a late night thought.

The pizzle shouldn't bleed much at all when snipped. The one time I saw one snipped, it didn't bleed at all.
Do you remember my thread with the buck apron I made for my boy who urine scalded himself? Well he darn near "decapitated" himself when he managed to get his penis over the top of the shield between it and his belly (a terrible design flaw), cutting himself enough to make quite a bloody mess. First thing was to do what you did and keep him away from any excitement. Once the bleeding stops they heal pretty fast. It will clot around the cut while inside the sheath and the clot will eventually slip out. I would keep him where he'll stay reasonably calm for at least a week and let than heal. Just watch for any signs of pus collecting on the end or dripping and track his temp for several days but I doubt you have any other problem with it.

When the vet cut the pizzle off my buck because of UC there was very very little blood, maybe only a couple drops. He did have me give him antibiotics for a week though afterwards.

I would keep your buck from the girls for awile & hopefully if the hole isn't real big should close up pretty good & start healing up.

Thank you! Thankfully it never began to bleed again through the night. For awhile I thought I was going to loose him, (he lost more blood than the chickens we've slaughtered).... (and I had just sold him for $250, and trying not to be cold, but thoughts of loosing that $ was also in my head).
There is a good size clot that has formed aroung the whole entire head of the penis, so I am hopeful this will be a good outcome.
I will keep him for another week, atleast, and try to keep telling my heart selling him is a good idea... :/ lol I really like this guy not only as a reg. Alpine, but also he has good comfirmation for a pack goat sire.... decisions... decisions.....
