Is a Nubian/Alpine cross a good combination?

A few threads back I had posted that I was looking for a boyfriend for my Sally Mae. She's a nubian who is 5 yo, and this will be her second freshening. I want to have some milk to feed pigs and steers, so I think I'm going to get another doe, so I can have two to milk. I got an email last night from a guy not too far from me regarding my quest for a buck. He raises alpines and is needing to get rid of two top-grade Alpine bucks. They're not registered, but are full blooded. The only reason he needs to sell them is he needs to change the bloodlines on his farm. One is dehorned and the other is horned. Obviously I would like to get the that is dehorned. He's asking $65.00 obo. Is this a good price? Also, would this combo make a good milker if there were any does to come of this union? The other doe I'll probably try to purchase is a Lamancha, would a Lamancha/Alpine make for good milking?

TIA

Yes, as long as the buck passes on good genetics for milk and udder conformation, the cross would be fine.

I'd ask to see pictures of the bucks dams to make sure he will pass on genetics that you want.

Also, are they tested/disease free?

I've already asked for pictures, I'm waiting to hear back from him.

I just bought a alpine/nubian doe in milk about a month ago, she still has a baby on her which we took as well and is also a alpine/nubian mix. SHe doesnt give a ton of milk right now, as she is a ff and has the doeling still but the milk is wonderful, we love it and all we have ever had is cows milk.

Both Nubian/Alpines and Alpine/Lamanchas have been very good crosses for me.
More important than the breed, is always the quality and the health. If the bucks come from good milking and good udder backgrounds(Always check out udders on dam, sisters and daughters if available), and herd health is good, its a good deal. Otherwise, it can be a disasterously expensive deal.
