Anyone lease a buck?

Either way ~ you lease a buck for your does, or you lease your buck to someone else?

A woman asked me if I would consider letting her use one of my Nigie bucks in November. I'd like to hear from others how they worked it out. How much to charge, and what did the contract state? TIA

I really can't help you as I have never done either. I do not lease my bucks out for the simple reason that I like to know exactly how they are being taken care of and I am conceited enough to think that I would see something wrong with him before any one else would.
The only way I would ever lease an animal out is if I was in no position to keep it, but I didn't want to lose those genetics completely by selling.
Just my opinion. I've got too much in my bucks, to let them out of my sight.

I have had folks bring their does to my place to breed with my Kiko buck, don't think I would let him go to another farm. I only request a kid back from the breeding as I raise for meat it does not mater if it is a buck or a doe. I have only had one family not return a kid to me and I knew they were having a hard time so I never said anything to them. I also traded buck services to a Vet for his service to my animals.

We do it both ways.
We do not charge because it helps other farms to improve their herd.
The ones we lease in cost us a little, but it helps improve our herd so it is worth it and if they are not needed elsewhere they tend to stay with us, so the initial expense ends up providing us with a great buck for a few years.

That is our way and the relationship we have with other herds, it is unique though and will not work for everyone.

We also have to have great respect for another herd and their maintenance program to let one of our boys go visiting.

If I sold them the does and they are the only goats they have then my boys can go there. One lady had 3 of my does and I saw her set up and trusted her with my boys. I charged her $50 per doe for the first 2 and for the 3rd I wanted a doeling back. I ended up not wanting the doeling and told her not to worry about paying for the 3rd doe breeding.

If I do not know them well or do not like their set up their does can come here provided they are disease free. My boys have their own pen and the does would not come in contact with the main herd but I will not take any chances. Anyway they pay the breeding fee and can bring their own food for their does or pay a bit extra if I feed them. If they are here and getting care I do not do a discount since I will only take a max of 3 does at one time and it is costing me a bit more time per day.

If they loose my buck, he dies etc they have to pay me his cost. They know this upfront so they know to keep him super safe. But like I said if I feel wrong about it I will not leave my boys there. I felt wrong about it with a pair of does, so I took them both home. I would not have wanted a doeling from that breeding anyway so I lost out on nothing since I consider any outside extra money. It is not something I count on.
I do not do it often just here and there if someone asks me. I do not advertize my boys or anything.

So I would make sure the fees are spelled out, if they are staying with you they must be clean, pay say $20 for a month of feed. If he is going there she must feed him or you provide the feed, relacement cost of buck, if they do not take you can offer 2 more "trys" to get the doe bred. Really after 3 times I would just wonder about the does fertility.
