Disbudding/Scur Question

I just brought home a just-weaned buck kid who was very generously given to me for free from the breeder that I have purchased several goats from. He is absolutely gorgeous and adorable, but the main thing that made me choose him out of the available bucks was his dam, who I fell in love with and wish was for sale herself!

Anyways, though he was dis-budded, he has scurs. One of the scurs was knocked off sometime between yesterday evening and around noon today. I want to go ahead and re-burn the spot where it was, and possibly the other scur if it is small enough.

However, when I got my iron out which I purchased early last year - but haven't used yet because I only had one kid last year who I watched the breeder dis-bud to learn - I noticed that I did not get the smaller, miniature goat tip for it.

So, my question is, will the Rhinehart X30 tip be too large for a roughly 2 month old Nigerian buck kid?

I took some pictures with my cell phone. I'd also like your opinions on whether the scur on the other side is too large to try and re-burn.

Trouble's remaining scur and wound -

And Trouble, prior to knocking off the scur. That metal thing is a gate, btw.

Thanks guys!

In the last picture it does not look like a scur. Looks like he was burned a little late. I had one done like that and when the scabs fell off she was fine. I have also had others that have those same scabs and did not grow scurs.

I do not think anyone uses the tiny pygmy/ Nigie tip for goats. I heard it is a waste of money and they just use the regular goat tip.

The tip you have will work fine and in fact, better than the mini tip. I have reburned at that age with my X50.
Very, very nice looking buckling too, congrats!! Lucky you!

I'd reburn using that tip..
It may be bone, but if it's soft flesh make an "X" with the side of the iron right in the center.

I was assuming they're scurs because the one that fell off was very loose, but the other one is pretty solid - more like a horn bud than a scab. I could be wrong, though...will it hurt anything if I re-burn and it is just a scab?

That's good to know. I won't waste my money on it, then!

Thank you! I just wish I could speed up his aging so I could use him sooner.

I think the part on the wound is fleshy, which stinks because it will probably hurt him more that way. What does making an X help with? Will it make it go faster, kill the nerves faster...?

I have always used the regular tip on full-size and mini breeds. No problems even at 1-2 weeks of age.
