Kind'a embarrassed to ask......

But I just have to.

My Nigerian buck is in rut (PEEEEE YUUUUU!!). He shares an area with two wethers, one is a freezer goat from this spring & the other is five years old.

Anyways...the older wether is holding his own, but the little guy is really getting the buck's "attention"......and often.

So, my question is, can the little guy get hurt in the bum area?

I've been keeping an eye on them and the buck doesn't really seem to be butting the little one too much or inflicting any other damage (beside his backend).

Ok, maybe I'm humanizing, but please give the little fellow a place that he can escape to. Thought of prison yards are running through my head.

And really, if he gets a tear there, there's a good chance of it getting infected.

I highly doubt that the actual act will harm the little guy - it's probably most troubling for us to see. However, if he is constantly being harassed and being chased around all day or being kept from his access to food and water because of the hounding - I certainly think his health should be considered. The stress, if he seems to be stressed, would be of more concern than injury due to to the "attention." I had a couple of bucks years ago who caused my husband MUCH concern because of this behavior with each other while the goats themselves seemed just fine with it.

Well, been keeping an eye on them today & the buck has calmed down some. They all get their own food bowls so everyone gets a peaceful meal. I guess it's like others are saying & that it's ME who's having a problem with it.

Although I do think I may separate them if he gets any more agressive, especially when I start using him to "check" if my does are really in heat.

Are you sure there is really an, ummmm, "entering" going on?

With most dominance-behavior mounting, there isn't actual....eerrr...penetration. The ....ummm... "special purpose" ends up going between the legs rather than in the...bum.

Jeez, I feel like I am discussing goat "dirty movies".

Glad I'm not the only one! Yeah, I know, it's all natural, but still.

But, no, I haven't actually seen any penetration, but then I haven't been paying THAT close of attention. I usually pay closer attention when he's with a DOE (well, because it's SUPPOSED to go there....well, not THERE, but, oh, you know what I mean!) but I guess I haven't had the nerve to look when he's on another boy.

glad you said that as reading down to this I thought I was going to have to be the one to throw that out there. Typically there is no penetration and unless the guy is really smaller of for some reason raises his tail its kinda not something that can happen, well easily anyway. K Im done
