New borns and heat

Should I be worried? It isn't really as hot as it has been but the babies are panting, thought about getting a big fan but then I had this image of one of chickens getting sucked through the other side, silly I know. I have a frozen 2 liter in the freezer for the bunnies if they need it should I put that out there?

All I do is hang a fan to keep the air moving. I don't know if ice bottles would work but it wouldn't hurt to try laying one in a corner of their pen.

K thanks. I seem to remember reading somewhere that babies aren't able to regulate their body temp very well. I put the bottle in there wrapped in a towel so it is cool to the touch but not icy. Will get a fan to hang up tomorrow.

This year we had cool weather till july and then 3 days after my kids were born it went to 100 degrees. I wanted to dam raise but knew it would be rough on the babies to be in the heat so I set up a rubbermaid trough in our cool garage and bottle fed them for about 4 days till the weather cooled off. I put them back out with mom and she accepted them again. What a relief.

If you are in a serious conversation about the dangers of a chicken getting sucked into your fan....well, you might be a redneck!

Be sure to offer baby goats cool water in low, shallow pans that they cannot drown in. Next time, know the breeding dates on your goats and do not let them kid into a hot month like this.

Wait... what?

Dude, when did Inga kid? How did I miss that????

Now I gotta go hunt up the thread...

In the meantime, if you can't keep a fan on them, the ice bottles are a good idea. Also, can you move them to a shady place with a decent breeze?

Also keep in mind that parasites will be a particular problem in the warmer months so be sure to keep up on the worming schedule and cocci prevention.

Oh my you made me laugh so hard!!

Actually she was supposedly already bred when I bought her, But we know how that goes. About 4 weeks after she was here she started acting funny, and then BAM she got caught by my buck.

Gee Pony were ya been!! LOL yeah Inga had twins last tuesday and so far everything is good, she had a boy and a girl but Cletus wasnt the daddy. Almost positive both are polled too.
Anyways gonna put a fan up for them. Yesterday it wasn't really hot hot but enough to make me sweat when Inga left me babysitting the twins while she went out and grazed some...

I have got to get down to see you and those goats, and visit the grandkid (Pawnee).

When things slow down around here... yeah, right...

I'll talk to you pm. Maybe we can set something up.

Maybe I can bring you some RABBITS! LOL!
