Using a local to castrate?

A lady backed out on buying my now 5 month old buckling. She wanted to borrow one instead His testicles are too big to fit in the band and even if I could get them in one at a time I think he has reached the age and size that it would be too painful.

I might list him as a lower price intact but if that does not work can he get a local, numb him up really well and then have them cut or use a burdizzo on them?
I really do not want to have him knocked out due to the danger it might pose and also the expense. I do not want to pay $150 to have it done so I can turn around and sell him as a $75 wether or keep him, my daughter the wether lover would like to! Yes he is sweet but 3 wethers is beyond my limit. If it was up to her we would have 3 more but I sold them

I would also have to convince the vet to do it my way and not knock him out. Has anyone done this? Did it work well?

I had the vet do one for me, with a local. I could tell when it wore off he was in pain for a little while, but didn't know what to do for him, except love him, . It cost me about 30 bucks, and I gave him away, but I was not about to castrate him with no numbing.
