Maybe a new goat.....
So....pouring through ads, ect., etc., talking to people about their goats and either come away with people who know NOTHING about goats and God Knows What Those Critters Have, to people who DO know goats, have WONDERFUL goats, but they are goats that have half a dozen stars, a pedigree as long as my arm, and they are asking a fair price, but it is a fair price that is FAR out of my reach right now.
Then a wonderful lady got in touch with me. She has a simple, grade herd of good milkers, Nubians, with a good, registered buck that she is using to improve her herd, and she has a couple of decent milkers she is willing to let go.
Yes, she tests, but she admits that she doesn't get around too well lately and is kind of behind on vaccinations. The last tests and last vaccinations are from last November, but she hasn't bought anything since then. She has sold a lot of her herd, they had just been too many for her to keep up with. She wormed in March. She only has a few left that are milking, she dried everyone else up because it was too hard on her to milk when it is so hot.
So tomorrow I am going out to look at them. There are two to choose from.
If I bring one home, I'll post pictures.

~laughs~ Well, they are a bit on the thin side....but the lady mentioned that she doesn't feed much grain hardly at all, only a little bit on the milk stand.
The big thing is that both does are VERY friendly, and milk easily. She says they stand quietly to milk even when they have finished their grain.
If even half of what she says is true, I am likely coming home with a new goat tomorrow.

How exciting, Can hardly wait to see the pictures. You could maybe get both of her doe's that are left so they come with a friend?
You can catch them up on the vaccinations, wormings & fatten them up.

I agree, I think you should get both. It will be less stressful if the move to a new is made with a friend.

~laughs~ As it is, because of complications that came up, I have to wait until tomorrow.
BOTH goats? Believe me, I would LOVE to, but I cannot afford both goats. I am stretching to afford ONE of the goats. If I came home with both of them, both my DH *and* my mother would have a litter of kittens on the spot.
But oooohhhh, how I would love to bring them both home.

Finally got her home! Pics a bit later when she has calmed down and chilled out.
Oh, she is *lovely*! A soft, chestnut brown, with a black line down her back, a black tail and black spots. She has a little white "hat" and she is dress formally with little white "gloves" on her front feet.
And she is SO sweet and SO quiet and SO darling. She barely muttered a word all the way home in the van. She didn't even eliminate in the van, she waited until we got home. I had her on the milk stand while there, and even without food in front of her, she just stood patiently.
She does, of course, have some faults, but the main thing, her temperament and her patience, was what is important to me. She will stand quietly and let you do ANYTHING with her. Rub her all over, milk her forever, anything.
Pics later! I'm so excited!

VegRN: Lexington. And she is a WONDERFUL lady. However, I am not sure the other does are for sale except in special circumstances. She said the ONLY reason I was offered one of them is because I *really* needed a doe in milk for my granddaughter.
Milked her tonight and she was, of course, fidgety and unhappy. Then again, Frankie kept trying to jump on the pallet next to the milk room, SURE that if he could just climb high enough, he could make it over the wall somehow, and every time he did that, she jumped a mile high. Then Brie kept kicking the door, and poor Gretta was being startled left and right.
But she still managed to give me some, and she didn't kick the pail over.
Her milk is very sweet. Not as rich as my Nigerian, Claire's (but what is?), but still rich, sweet and delicious.
My granddaughter approves.

Alright, pictures!
My new girl, having just discovered the stand of sapling sugar berry trees (where my herd likes to hang out during the heat of the day too):
DH, petting Gretta, in front of the rest of the herd. Gretta is DEFINITELY a people goat!
Enjoy! I certainly am!

She does look like a sweetheart!!! She looks real skinny to me but that could be because I am so used to looking at my own fatty fatty 2X4's You have a Frankie and now a Gretta? I have a Gretta and her son is Frankie!!
That is great that you found such a nice goat!
