Funny you don't realize it before you are able to drink something else. And then after you do have the "good stuff" it is impossible to go back!

You know, I haven't found the raw Alpine milk I "get" locally to taste much different than store bought - lol! It is good, but the difference is almost not discernable.
We have a whole herd of Nubians, but we've not kept any in milk due to mastitis in the last doe and the others dam raised.

Compared to fresh goat's milk, goat's milk from the store is extremely gross. Cow's milk from the store doesn't taste "bad" to me but it is different...maybe slightly bitter compared to the fresh goat's milk.

In my humble opinion: Raw Goats milk or Cows milk ~ fresh from the farm ~ beats any of the icky stuff from the store We are blessed to have both kinds quite abundantly!

My darling granddaughter, at one year old:

Fresh Goats Milk: Disappears instantly. I swear she inhales it.

Store-bought goats milk: Is thrown on the floor, and we are given a look of "WHY are you trying to POISON me?"

LMAO!!!

I wish I had the "good stuff".

I honestly think I recently turned lactose intolerant.
For the past 2 weeks, every time I drink milk I get an upset
stomach, and it turns into the scene from "White Chicks"
in the bathroom.

I think I need to try some fresh raw goat milk.

One of the neighbors around here has goats, but I can't
tell which one. I've never actually seen the goats, but I hear them
some evenings.

I should find out who and ask to purchase some.

LOL - I don't know what the deal is then with our raw goat's milk (from Alpines and Ober/Alpine crosses) - it honestly tastes about the same as store bought cow's milk - the difference is almost non existant.

LOL! For a long time I thought that store-bought milk and fresh goat milk tasted about the same. But this last winter I tried to drink some store milk when my does were dry, and it was NOT good. Not spoiled or anything, just not good. Made it all into kefir so I could drink it!

my does were dry longer than i planned last winter, and took a glass of 2%, i was soooo hungry for milk! oh gag. it tastes like my milk after its sat for a couple weeks, it tastes ok, but very old and kinda chalky.

before getting goats, i worked at a dairy farm and had fresh milk there. so we've been on raw milk for literally YEARS, so not sure if its raw, ubber-fresh or what, but even tho. i'm a milk-aholic, i went cold turkey til the girls were milking again.

I have been afraid to try regular milk from the store.

When we sold our goats last spring (thought we were going to be moving cross country) and we had to go back to drinking store milk my kids asked me "When do we to have real milk again?" they haven't drank milk like they used to since. We have goats again but we have to wait until they have kids next spring to have milk. *sigh* Seems like a very long time to wait.

I tried store bought goats milk once - only once. Yuck! Tasted like it came out of some old billy goat's bottom half. Some day I'll get to try the good stuff, but right now most people here have meat goats.

We never drink store bought milk, well except for a small amount of half and half in our morning coffee. As soon as our new Mini doe kids we won't be buying half and half anymore either.

Oh and I mean store bought cow milk. I tried store bought goat cheese once and it tasted the way a buck in rut smells. I won't even try the store bought goat milk.

Yep, "chalky". That is the description my kids give of store bought milk too.

What do they do to store milk to make it taste bad? Is it the pasteurization?

I don't know, but to me, it tastes like reconstituted dry milk powder. Blech!
