Lost and buckling... can't figure it out.
I HAD a nice 13 month old Boer up until yesterday.
3 days ago he was playing, jumping, and chasing the girls.
A day later I found him standing next to the barn with his chin on his neck, staring at the ground... which seemed like an odd posture. We isolated him to a cool area of the barn, gave him a fan, a little hay and grain, and fresh water... he drank and ate. A few hours later, he seemed to be fine so I cut him loose in the paddock.
The next morning I found him standing in the shade with his chin still tucked into his neck. We gave him penicillin for the next 24 hours but he continued his downward spiral... the vet was coming out this morning, which made it too late.
He has been wormed regularly, had his CDT booster a month ago, and seemed very "kid" like prior to all this.
Any ideas?

I'm so sorry! I don't have any ideas, but I know how frustrating and sad it is to lose one, especially from unknown problems.

I have no idea's but wanted to say how sorry I was that you lost him. It is really tough when something like that happens.
Too bad the vet didn't offer to do a necropsy on him when he came out so you would at least know what happened to the little guy.

Pneumonia is a silent killer with goats, one day they can seem fine, no cough no fever and the next they can be dead, its one of the common mystery killers. That is my best guess with what information you gave

Any time one of my goats is off like that, I take it's temperature. If there's a fever, I give Banamine and Nuflor. Normal temp and I give Thiamin. Low temp in a lactating doe and it's Norcalciphos. Did you see if he was peeing. Bucks can get blocked and die from a burst bladder or uremic poisoning. Sorry you lost him.

I would guess pnuemonia too. Its the right time of year, and many times there are no sure symptoms you can pin down, though I'd bet he had a temperature.
Sorry that happened.

Educate me...what are the reasons that pneumonia is more common this time of year?

The high temps stress an animal, high humidity too. Also this time of year is perfect for a high wormload from eating spring grass. All of which stress an animal into pnuemonia easier. Also, sudden temperature changes which we have here, are good for pnuemonia.
In my experience, hot weather pnuemonia kills an animal faster than cold weather pnuemonia.
