WADDL or University of MO for CAE testing?
We went to look at a Nubian/Saanen doe today. She's two years old, very gentle and handle-able, and may or may not be bred. (She's been running with the buck since April.)
Problem is, the owner said she had two consecutive neg CAE tests, but couldn't produce paperwork for the second test.
Told him we liked the doe, and we liked the price, but would like to have a more recent test. (We don't know him through goat circles; met him at a local feed store.) I told him we'd pay for a CAE test, but I couldn't buy her w/o a current positive.
Here's what's interesting: He gets his testing done at the University of MO. He told me that they use the same exact test procedure as WADDL, but it's less expensive.
Anyone here know anything about UM's testing?

You could call UM and ask them about their test procedures and prices and see if he is giving it to you straight.

I'd go with WSU ELISA test, they are a very trusted place to get results from. Especially if I was basing a buy on this test, I'd go with what I knew.
WSU costs to send the blood, but they are not costly to actually test, just $6.00 a head.

Use biotracking - $4 a test and it is the ELISA test, too

I also use Bio-tracking. They do pregnancy tests for an extra $7.50.

I just went to UM's site, and they don't use the ELISA test. It says "AGID" and I have no idea what that means.
Anyone?
I need to give this guy a call. He told me quite plainly that UM uses the same exact test as WADDL - obviously, he's either misled or he's being less than truthful.
I like the doe, but not at the risk of bringing in CAE if I can help it.

WADDL definitely for CAE. The only time our vet made a mistake and sent a bunch of our CAE tests to Idaho State we had a doe which we'd already sold come back positive. Fortunately it was a false positive but it caused a lot of undue stress for us and the buyers (who also had a CAE free herd) while we waited for a negative test from WADDL.

Okay, we're definitely going to talk to the fella tomorrow and see if he's willing to wait for the ELISA test. If not, then that's that.
If he is, at this point, I'm inclined to drive over there to get the blood sample myself and send it off to Biotracking (my neighbor already has their materials). As long as it's the ELISA, I don't care if it's WA or Bio-T.
Once more, though, b/c maybe 3rd time's the charm: What does AGID stand for?

Biotracking. WSU is $6.00 PLUS the $10.00 accession fee. Very accurate, very easy to work with.
Have them run a pregnancy test at the same time - then you'd know! Plus, you can tell this fellow that Biotracking lets you have the "one shop stop".
BTW, If I lost the results from a test, Biotracking and WADDL/WSU could send me duplicate results.... UM should be able to do the same thing, but if it was me I would want either WSU or Biotracking.

I just sent 23 samples to WSU and the shipping through the postal service, if I remember right, was only $11 and some change. That was with a tracking number.

The two places I trust are WADDL amd BioTracking. Snubians are wonderful goats. My Miracle is my best producer and is very patient on the milk stand.

Elisa is about 90% accurate. AGID is about 65% accurate. Your call.

But AGID also gave us false negatives and false positives, it was all we had but dang!!!
I prefer biotracking.com because it gives you titer numbers to read. Do you really want to buy a doe who is one number away from borderline? With WSU you won't know this. Vicki

I would like to get my goats tested. I have asked local vets and they will not test-they say they do not have a place that will do the testing-nor will they draw blood for me. Sooo-can someone tell me or direct me to a site that will show me/tell me how and where to draw blood in a goat?
I got the web site from post above for the biotracking.com.

Yes, no matter if it is biotracking or WSU, do the ELISA test, not the AGID.

If you go to biotracking.com, then to the page on CAE, they have a link to a great page with a pic tutorial on drawing blood. All the info is right there.
