Can she get pregnant after one day?

My Saanen, Hermoinie got out of her new pen and spent the afternoon with Ron, our buck. Hermoinie is about 15 months old, and never bred. The only thing spearating her and Ron has always been a wire fence. The new pen is no different, but instead of wire it's a metal gate.

Ron got dehorned about 11 days ago and it got infected and maggoty. I'm praying that he 'had a headache' and didn't feel romantic...but he IS a male.

Can a Saanen get bred in one day?

Yep. IF they are in heat. Thing is, Saanens *generally* go into heat in fall.

But there is always a chance a heat happened off season. It only takes about 2 minutes for a buck to "do the deed", so yes, she *could* be pregnant.

But it is unlikely unless she was/is in heat.

I'm hoping she didn't. I really don't want to be milking over Christmas or in January! The plan is for her to go in with Ron on Nov. 1st so the babies will be here on April 1st. But goats can't read calendars....

And they also have a tendency to change one's plans! ~smiles~

Just ask anyone who has had a bumper crop of kids due to an excessive clever and cunning buck or buckling!

How old is Ron? If he is under 8 weeks old he probably did not. Or is he and adult that got dehorned?

Yes my stinking buck was clever and I had a bunch of Jan kids I did not plan for. I was making goat coats, blow dried a kid etc etc. I do not like Winter kids.

You can always lute her, but wait till at least 14 days from the possible breeding. Or you might end up with a pair of lute twins like I did

I had two sets of kids this spring that were unexpected. I had planned on milking those two does through the year. Sigh.

I also learned NOT to keep does and bucks with just a common fence between. Where there's a willy, there's a way.

I am going to HAVE to steal this line!

Reminds me of the reason I used to give people for prefering to bring up boys rather than girls:

"With a boy, I have to worry about one, count 'em, ONE, willy. With a girl, I have to worry about EVERY willy!"
