Goat has lice

Help me guys. Our goats (well the little boy) is covered with lice. Went to our local farm supply all they had was lice/fly tx made by BOSS. Dosing on back is based on 25 lbs increments. So (thanks to my nursing background) I figured out hat the dosage would be for our little guy who is only about 9-10 lbs. put it on his back yesterday. Today there were some dead but ALOT alive. I treated the 2 girls as well, but didnt find a single one on them.TS is quite a drive. Should I go get something else or just wait to see if it works then tx again in 14 days?HELP!
(Sorry tx means treat)

I have CYLENCE ordered from Jeffers that works really well. Before that I used some pour on stuff from TSC called Lice No More, I used it mainly for flies since they really bother the goats.

If you have any Seven dust or DE you could Dust him well with one of those, make sure to wear a mask if you can so you don't inhale it & try & keep it away from his eyes.
Wouldn't hurt to dust all your goats.

I use Seven Dust as well just as precaution, dusting just before winter, mid-winter & again in late spring.

It was the ticks that bothered my herd this year (and the wet weather); used Atroban for that (diluted and poured over a wet-down goat's back, working it into all hair all over each goat), which cleared up everything. Rubbed NZL on worse tick infestation. They dropped dead immediately and any damage done to skin healed quickly.

We've given Ivomectin injectible orally in the past when we've had lice really bad. But we prefer to clip (at least the shoulders and top line) and use diatomaceous earth as a dust. And make sure the stalls are super clean. We've found that with goats who've come to us in poor condition and when our breeding bucks have been worn out, this is when we've had a lice problem. It always seems to go away with better feed, less stress.

Pat Coleby

Pat Coleby's Natural Goat Care recommends a tsp of sulfur topdressed on daily feed will take care of the problem. Haven't tried it myself though. She states that lice will only attack a goat deficient in sulfur.

Checked him over today. Most are dead. Brushed him out really well. Will treat him with DE tomorrow. Our breeder is very reputable and we have done "surprise" visits on more than one ocassion before we brought them home just to check the conditions of the barn and how they were doing. They are on a high quality feed, Cargill loose mineral, and a very high quality hay that we grew, cut and baled ourselves. We clean the stalls every afternoon. Should I spray them down with something? Its odd b/c we treated the girls as well but found nothing on them. Thanks for the advice...we have NEVER dealt with lice before so I kind of freaked when I found them on Peat.

DM I am VERY new to goats, but we spend alot of time with ours holding them, brushing them, etc...I noticed the other day our little guy was itching more than I had seen him itch. So when I picked him up I looked at his coat to check for fly bites, when I spread his fur apart I could see them. They look similar to human lice, not sure if they can be transmitted to humans though...UGH!!!Great!Now I am gonna be worried about that all night!LOL!

lol ... If you get them on your 2-legged loved ones, Momto5, just add an ounce of Ivermectin to their shampoo. I am told that will take care of them quickly.
