Unhappy For the lack of a caribiner

I look out into my backyard and see my guardian donkey wandering around grazing.....
Look toward my milking pen ( pen between my milkroom and yard/pasture ) and see more animals....
Go outside to see my feeder overturned on top of my Nubian doeling. Yeah she was dead when I got there.
My youngest daughter who is in charge of moving goats to and from at milking time ( after being repeatedly told to do so ) failed to put the caribiner on the gate latch to keep them from getting to where they were not supposed to.
Needless to say I'm just devastated.
DH blames me for not following up and checking stuff properly...

Aw, Suzi- i'm sorry you lost your girl
I feel you on the repeated instructions thing.... there's been a few times we've been out hunting our 30 something mare because my SEVENTEEN year old forgot to latch the gate.

So sorry!! I have the same problem with my 13 year old son. If I don't check behind him, I can't trust that it's done right.

So sorry for your loss. Some times we need these things to happen, to encourage our children responsibility. I hope your child will learn from this to double check everything. Again I'm so sorry for your loss.

I had a long ole thing typed up and hit a wrong button, so now its gone. So in short I do hope that your DD learns that this is a heartbreaking, expensive consquence for not following through with her job. And dont you dare feel guilty suzyhomemaker if you have to spend most of your time going around finishing what your DD doesn't she will never learn. It is a hard lesson for her, please do not let it be lessoned or she will not learn.

So sorry! I bet your daughter feels horribly as well, and it's a lesson she's not likely to forget. This farming stuff is hard sometimes. Try not to beat yourselves up about it.

I'm so sorry. How sad.

May I ask, for education purposes as to avoid as many mistakes as possible, what killed her?

"hugs" Suzy.

I do hope you made sure your daughter had to help straighten up all that occurred and that you (and hubby) had a good talk with her. Sometimes our children learn the hard way.

In a holding pen that we use to move back and forth during milking time there is a hay feeder..it's a wooden framed thing that's designed as well a hay feeder. I use it now as a feeder for alfalfa pellets so the ladies have a nice meal while they're waiting. Apparently the donkey turned it over on top of the doeling as when I found her she was gone. He is not supposed to be inside that pen at all...
