Cleaning the water bowl.

I have been reading the goat catalog and was looking at things I might need but don't want to overspend, you know?

Do I need a special cleaner for their water bowl? I have a galvanized pail. I also have cleaners I use at home for cleaning other things. I understand the importance of keeping it clean but do goats have special waterbowl germs that require special cleaners?

No, soap, water and some elbow grease work well. I do not use metal however and have 5 gallon plastic buckets and a 40 or 50 gallon rubbermaid type waterer. Not sure if metal has different needs but if it does I would not use it and make myself extra work

I just scrub with soap and water, let them soak in a bleach solution for a few minutes, and then dry in the sun. Same as I do with the dog, chicken, cat, rabbit, etc. feed and water pans.

A good tip I learned on this forum (family forum) Add white vinegar to the water to get the "slime" out. It works great! Great for when cleaning dog dishes...or if your dogs help with the dishes

We just use plastic bucket that gets dumped and refilled with fresh water at least twice a day. If they need washed, we just use soap and water and the soak in a water/bleach solutiona and rinse well.

We use plastic buckets also. Only thing I use to clean them is dishsoap & water.

Apple cider vinegar in the water buckets or if your using a trough, etc. really will help to keep the slime, etc. down as well & mine Love the Apple cider vinegar in there water.

There buckets are changed daily but I know some keep large buckets, etc. that are too big to change everyday.
