I woke this morning to find my young Lamancha buck, Handsome, dead. He was fine last night, nothing has been changed in his routine, nada. Don't know what happened, but he was cold and bloated, so he had been gone a while at any rate. I suspect entero, even though nothing had changed in his diet and he was vaccinated. Nothing is 100% when dealing with live beings, but it stinks that I lost him. He was so nice, I had big plans for him.
I need to sell his companion buck. He is too related to my girls to use, I was planning on using him as a companion until next fall, then selling him as a breeding buck to someone who could use him.
Now, he is alone and I cannot use him. If he goes within the next couple weeks, I'd take $100(TO A GOOD HOME). If he is here longer than that, I'll be building him a new pen, getting him a companion wether, and he will be more expensive.
I will be holding him for a week, just to be sure he is fine. Even though I know he is, I'd feel better about it if I wait a week.
He is disbudded, all shots, has papers and a really NICE pedigree. Lots of milk and udder behind this boy.
Names in his immediate background are: South Fork, Celtic Knot, Joyful Morn, Amberwood, One Oak Hill, Becca's, etc. I can direct you to pics of dam and sire if interested.
Taken today:
The bucket next to him is a five gallon bucket. So if cared for properly, he should easily be big enough to breed this fall.
And my Handsome, picture taken two days ago. What a shame......
Now back to cleaning the barn.
