Question kids with soft spongy horns

Wondering if anyone knows why my billy kid's horns are all of a sudden feeling a bit spongy. One morning I went out to the barn and it looked as if he had caught one horn on something. Almost as if his horns were rotting or something. Like the stem on a pumpkin when it gets old or wet.....Is it a deficiency or something?

I don't know why your buckling's horns are like that, but I'm interested in reading what experience others may have had with this.

He's still growing. They hit a stage where horns appear to be flakey & seem to remain like that for a few months. Then they grow out of it.
My gang gets plenty loose minerals & balanced feed so no it's not a deficiency.
