question for those with horned goats

Recently got these two girls and was wondering if anyone could (maybe) give me some idea of their age based on the size of their horns? Don't know if that can be done, but I really have no idea how old these girls are. I was told that #1 is a Nubian and #2 is a Saanen, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're not purebred ... they're just milk goats.

Thanks!

I don't know..but they are beautiful horns! I think you would have more luck guessing their age by their teeth. Very pretty girls you got there!

thanks! Don't know how to do it with the teeth, though ... didn't want to have to pry their mouths open!

The #1 goat looks to have a bit more growth than my 6 yr old doe. The #2 goat.... I'd guess much older, maybe around 9 or 10. But I'm no expert. All I know is my doe and her wether son's horns are slightly smaller than the #1 goat, and they are 6 yrs and 5 yrs old.

Thanks! That's what I'm looking for! I kind of thought #2 might be 'old' - I was guessing more like 8 though ... although that guess was based on absolutely nothing! lol

It's interesting how different their horns are (from each other) ... #1's go up and back (sort of) and are 'flatter', while #2's curl around much more and are more 'roundish' shaped. Interestingly enough, the Saanens I saw pics of on the internet seemed to have horns less like this girl (#2), and more like #1's!

My Nubian is 5 and her horns are just starting the "outward" curve, I would guess yours to be 7 or 8ish

I have never seen horns on a Sannen that long so I would say old, guessing 10ish

The best way to tell the age is by the teeth. I like the horns on the second goat.

Thanks! this has been a big help.

I like her horns, too. Her name's Bianca and she's quite gentle ... was very stand-offish when I first got her, and she's big enough that if she doesn't want to move, you won't be moving her! Luckily she enjoys my company now ... she'll come up behind me when I'm hunkered down and rest her chin on my shoulder or head - spooked me the first time she did that! Apparently, she's able to jump the fence but only does it occasionally - when she's separated from the others and wants company, like my neighbor who was in her yard across the fence one day. So Bianca jumped the fence that day and headed over to the neighbor lady, who completely freaked out, ran into her house, and locked her door behind her! By the time she called her husband, who called me, and I walked down to check things out, Bianca was not only already back inside our goat acreage, but at the gate to greet me! I went and talked to the neighbor lady who told me she thought it was a big billy goat with those great horns coming to get her! rofl It was hilarious, but I waited until I left before laughing too hard.

#2 looks just about Saanen her ears are a little lower then should be and she has a slight roman cast to her nose but her horns are sorta correct, according to IDGR. Saanen's nose are to be straight or slightly dished. IMO they both are nubian/saanenX #1 has more nubian cast to her.
My 3 yr old Saanen's horns are about 1/4 shorter then your #2 but I checked her teeth too
