Looks to me like he's loosing his winter coat, some do it pretty late. Hard to tell from pictures, though.

What we are telling you is that we don't have enough information to give any advice.

When we ask what he's eating, me mean exactly what. What brand, how much? How much hay and what kind? Browse?

When was he dewormed, with what, how much?

What kind of minerals? Brand?

EXACTLY what is her management?

I Live in Northern Michigan so we get lots of cold weather & lots of snow most years & I have never had any of my goats look like that after winter. Mine usually will loose what I call their undercoat & I help that along with brushing but I think your friends goats has some other issues going on. Just not sure what they may be without more information.

I agree with Katie. I don't think this looks like loosing winter coat. Mine don't look like that when they loose their coat. I wonder what the skin looks like. It looks like either a skin issue or some kind of deficiency....but no, that is not normal First thing I would look for is if there is a worm over load. I would also ask your friend what minerals the goat is getting. I would also suggest a skin scraping to rule out mites or lice. Let us know what you find out...

If she's feeding in pans on the ground, it's very likely all the goats have severe worm loads.

I had a doe blow her coat like that a year ago. It was about 2 weeks after kidding. Prior to that her coat looked good - black-black (no brown tips) and shiny. She had blow out the undercoat, which I helped by brushing... the guard hairs stayed. I put her out in the pasture with her kids and it rained a bit. She got wet (had shelter but stayed in the drizzle), her coat fluffed up from the rain and looked really icky, the next day it started falling out in clumps! I freaked out, pulled a fecal, which came back fine. I pulled ANOTHER fecal because I didn't believe the first - came back fine. I dewormed anyway. With her I know it wasn't nutrition because I am meticulous. Her coat grew back short and beautiful... I still have no idea what it was.
