New here

We live in Oregon and have 4 pygora nanny goats, a billy and 8 babies this year. One set of triplets, 2 sets of twins and a single from a first time Momma. They keep the place trimmed and keep us entertained, kids are so cute. They keep the pond and creek area cleaned up, all I have to do is chop a weed or 2 with a hand scycle. Our property is 1 acre, lush meadow, a creek and fish pond with a tree line and a small mature mixed forest, kept like a park. We are off grid with a 24 volt micro hydro powerplant that runs off a gravity line from our spring way up the hill. We also have 3 small 12 volt solar panels, 2 for the 380 sq ft cabin and one for the aquaponic greenhouse pump and a pump for the drip system for the garden. The shop is 8'x12' and the leanto greenhouse on the south end is 6'x8'. I raise yellow perch in 6 rubbermaid water tanks, 12 permanent hydroponic strawberry plants, kitchen garden, herbs, a zuchinni and several tomato plants in the winter plus our plant starts for the spring gardens. The passive solar cabin has 24 volts for the refrigerator and a washing machine. The excess power after the batteries are charged runs my wifes little therapy spa, a backup space heater in the cabin in the winter and a hot water heater in the summer. In the winter we heat water with a coil on the wood stove and we cook on it. We have gravity fed hot running water, a conventional low water use toilet and a shower. We harvest all the grey water to a 1000 gal underground tank along with rainwater for drip irrigation for the raised bed garden. Only the toilet goes to the septic system. We built the cabin as a summer place 12 yrs ago and moved here this spring full time....James

Welcome to HT from a fellow Oregonian. Sounds like you have quite the set up. Wish we had a place to run micro-hydro here the potential with those really fascinates me.

Welcome to HT. Love the sound of your setup, would love to go off grid buuuut well think I would have to drag my DD kicking and screaming. Would love to see pics of your pygora's wanted an angora but read they are delicate goats. One major rule I have figured out here in HT- must post PICs!! (as soon as you can )
