Question Where or how to find a butcher who does the killing?

OK we can't wait to try little goat. So how do I find a butcher who will also do the killing? I pretty sure I can't kill a goat. I have processed my own chickens, But my chickens don't love me. Chickens don't stretch their necks out to be scratched. Chickens don't gaze into my eyes like they are trying to use the force on me, "Give the goat more grain Luke!"

Although I have hatched our many many chicks, it is just not the same as watching another mammal give birth.

So call me wishy washy, but I just can't kill a goat. But I can sure enough eat one!!

In our yellow pages, it's listed under Butchering. That lists the meat processors who take home grown animals and deer.

We butcher all of our own animals and the all become like pets to us even the hogs that are glad to see us and act more like a dog that likes to be petted and get there ears scratched. You just have to realize that all the animals that you raise are there to give you food.So just go out and do it your self and save your money istead of paying some one to do a job that sounds like you can do.

In addition to our animals being like pets, I also don't trust butchers with my animals. Shipping them there so they're in a new place is TERRIFYING, and they're often handled rough or cruelly by the butchers. Not all butchers are rough, good ones can be found - but for me, I couldn't imagine shipping an animal off all terrified to be handled by weird people. I've also heard that stress can alter the taste of the meat.

Me, I'd rather throw a big 'ol handful of grain on the ground and let the wether start eating. My wethers never get grain, so they get SO happy. A 22 bullet to the rear of the head drops them, and they never know the difference. Painless, humane, stress-free. After that, a dead animal is a dead animal, and butchering is easy.

Are you anywhere near Athens, GA? Palmer's Meat Processing in Nicholson (between Athens and Commerce) is really good and they make some great sausage.

Call the local butchers and see if there is a person in your area who comes out to the farm to kill the animal, then takes it in to be processed.
We have a gentleman who works out of Norwood, MO. He comes to your farm, kills the cow/goat/sheep etc, while they are peacefully grazing in their own field. The animal is never stressed and you don't have the work of killing it yourself if you don't want to.
I've never seen this guy need to use more than one bullet, he is good. He then bleeds it, skins it, guts it, and takes it in to be processed.
We have this guy do our cows for us.
Maybe you have someone similiar in your area.

We have a guy that we always take our deer too. We have also taken a pig & a couple goats to him before. He never mistreats them, he only butchers on Saturday mornings & you take the animal there on saturday morning, unless deer of course that you've already shot.
He does a great job. It's also where we buy our beef, which he raises & butchers per order.
If you look in the phone book & talk to a few folks in the area you will probly find someone you can trust.
