Quads again!

My old doe, Daisy, never lets me down. So far in her life she's given me twins, quads, twins, quads - then took a break for 2009. 10 does, 2 bucks total. She just gave me quads again today, this time with two does and two bucks. She's only given twin does or 3 does/1 buck in her quads in the past. This year I told her I wanted a buck out of her, so she was nice enough to give me two to choose between!

She had a little trouble, but I was able to sort everything out.

Firsborn, a sundgau agouti buck, had one leg back. Quick fix, and out he came. He is NOISY and the best eater I've ever seen. If she's standing, he's eating.

Secondborn is a sundgau agouti paint doe, the runt. I always get one runt whenever she gives quads, no matter her diet during pregnancy. The runt is TINY, with legs barely larger than a pencil. She was born head back, but she is so tiny that she fit perfectly fine with her head back. I tried fishing her head forward, and I just couldn't find it in a tangle of legs/heads, and I figured she would fit... she did easily. She's FEISTY, too, which is good because usually they're weaker. I had to tube feed the last one I got. And, she puts all other baby goats to shame with her cuteness.

Third born was breech and naturally born with just me pulling on the legs to help the tired doe. He's a dark caramel agouti buck, second largest.

Fourth born is a black and tan sundgau doeling, the biggest. She was also coming one leg back, another easy fix.

Now, I just gotta decide which to keep. I may keep both doelings, and it's gonna be tough choosing between the bucklings.

Total goats on property : 22... with one more due 6/8 and another with two duedates of 6/11 and 6/17. It's odd to think that this spring I had just 8.

All four - from top to bottom and largest to smallest : black and tan sundgau doe (4th), dark caramel buck (3rd), sundgau agouti buck(1st), sundgau agouti paint doe (runt, 2nd)

Wow - quite a contrast between the two doelings.

Congrats on the quads!

Just weighed the doelings, because the scale was handy - little doeling is all of 1lb 11 oz, the large doeling 3 lbs 14 oz.

Well, I've had as many as 17 in the past. I 'sold out' a couple years ago but couldn't stand it... I've not only started breeding again but also bought two dairy does and 6 boer goats recently.

So at the beginning of this year and last winter, I had 8... 4 mini does, a mini buck, a french alpine wether, and 2 mini yearling does. Now I'm at...

4 mini does (two are preggo)
6 mini kids (2 doe, 4 buck)
2 mini yearling does
3 french alpines (2 does, 1 wether)
1 mini buck
2 boer does
3 boer doelings (5months)
1 boer wether
