With no milk sales, unless a grade A dairy with some of the stricktest rules (most expensive also) really think about if you want a goat and what breed you can sell before you buy. Nothing outsells Nubians plus if you really just want family milkers you could breed them Boer for quick sales of meat kids. It's not about what is someone elses favorite goat, what is the goal for your place? Which breed of goat will work into that goal, feed/hay/land is simply to expensive now to not have a solid business plan before you get started. Goats can quicky become a money pit like horses.
Craigs list or not, if a goat is forsale and the words current CAE negative test isn't written on the page, than she is likely positive. Vicki

Awesome advice Vicki. I would love to talk with you more if possible. We are only getting them for family milkers and actually have a friend who just bred who Oberhasli's to a Boer goat for meat and milk. My question to that is: if I bred my diary goat to a Boer goat will it affect the milk production? We have some friends in our area who are interested in starting up a milkshare but, as of now, it's only a family milker idea.I had two Nigerians and loved them but the one was really loud. All day nothing but hollering. And, I have only heard and read that Nubians are even louder. I actually just found a breeder who is really close (about a half hour away) to us who owns Oberhaslis. She is actually going to sell us a couple adult does. One in milk and one pregnant and yes, all tests show negative as of this year. So, I am completely happy with that. Thank you for all the information.
