Doeling - Eye Trouble

When it rains.. it pours huh?

First my little buckling with some mysterious puncture wound and now our new bottle baby with eye troubles.
I picked up a 6 week old bottle baby recently and upon getting her home she refused to take a bottle from us. I tried all nipples I could find but NO WAY, she didn't want it. So, I hit the road looking for the black lamb nipples which is what she was used to (and I didn't have on hand). When I got home, she was either going to drown or take that darn bottle. THANK GOODNESS.. she took the bottle. One disaster averted. I've never had a bottle baby be so picky about the nipple.

NOW, her one eye is teary and she doesn't keep open all the way. It doesn't look like pink-eye to me. I think she might have an ulcer on the center of her eye. I can kinda see a "spot" on her eyeball.

HERE'S my question; what can I use to treat her with? Can I use Terramycin? Or should I take her to the Vet on Monday?

Thanks everyone!
Val

You could pick up some triple antibiotic ointment withOUT steriod in it and put that in her eye twice a day for a few days. Some ppl use Neosporin but I prefer to use ointment made for the eyes.

If you have it available, raw goat milk also makes a great eye wash / disinfectant.

All eye ailments are called pink eye even if its not classic pinkeye. (: You can use neosporin, a couple drops of Pen, LA 200 or Biomycin right in the eye or terramycin eye ointment for a few days.
When it starts to clear up continue treatment for another few days.
Start with a few human eye drops then your med of choice.

I like to use neosporin in my rabbits, because the ointment base helps to lubricate the eye. Probably would work the same way for goats.

I am wondering, though, if she has a foreign object embedded in her cornea that may need to be removed...
