Bad Bill is Sweet William now!

My new buck has been acting up a bit, pushing on me and trying to butt me and my son. I scolded him and tried to ignore the misbehavior, but I could see that it was going to get out of hand and might lead to more aggressive behavior. After reading Blue Juniper's advice in a previous thread, I decided to show him who the herd boss was.
When he started the butting again I first gave him a stern "No!" warning, and when he persisted to butt me I grabbed him, tossed him to the ground, pinned him down and held him there for several moments. We had a little talk, he got the message, and he has been on his very best behavior with me since.
I still have a lot to learn about goats and how to manage such issues, but this website is a lot of help.

Your lucky... Not so much luck with 'Titan'...he is 1 year old Boer buck...he has pushed me over the limit several times where I have to take him down...and he is I would say at least 150 if not 200 lbs. He is a big boy...

He will still rare up...but from 20 ft ormore... now my girls(9,7,3) he would push around and has left a bruise before...so no more girls into goat pasture unless I am there. Titan will have his own special part of the pasture soon...

Nick took Beaux down, and he held him down a good while. Then, I jumped on top of the buck and held him down (with Nick's assistance).

I was tired of rattling that stupid metal bowl at him to make him behave. He would have figured it out it was harmless eventually, too, I think.

Dont expect that to be the end of it!!
Heck, odds are its only the beginning.

IMO, the best bucks are those who dont want to go near people!
Friendly intact bucks are not worth keeping IMO.

Keep kids away from bucks always.
Even a pygmy or ND buck has the power to hurt a kid severely.

Well, River, opinions are like noses. Just about everybody has one.

My bucks have to be willing to be handled. I don't care whether or not they like me, but they jolly well better allow us to handle them. Otherwise, how are we to trim hooves, medicate, bolus, inspect, inject, etc etc etc?

Visitors are instructed that, if so inclined, they may pet the bucks from the "human" side of the fence. Only Nick and I are allowed in there with them, and we don't go in every day. We feed and water from our side of the fence, and only go in for cleaning and maintenance (of the pen and the bucks).

A buck who doesn't want to go near people at all is not my idea of a good buck.

But, like I said, opinions, noses, blah blah blah.
