TB Test

The state certified goat dairy I get my raw milk from is being required by the state to test for TB.

I am ill with autoimmune disease, so am very careful about what toxins and drugs I take in either by ingesting or absorbing. Should I pass on getting milk during the testing period? What is the milk withdrawal period after the test?

I did a bit of looking online for info, but the most I found was directed toward humans being tested and for anyone pregnant or nursing to not get the test. But "no known side effects".

Any information you can offer would be great!

I thought when my goats were tested all they took was blood. that was a few years ago and my memory of it may be inaccurate. But I don't remember them gicing my goats anything or for me to not drink their milk.

When they TB test they inject a solution along the tail web of the goat and then you wait 48 hours and if it swells into a bubble then your goats are positive if nothing happens then you are negative.

I would call a vet office and ask this question. They would have a better idea about a withdrawl time or any ill effects it at have on us. On another note, since I have started drinking raw milk and "eating clean" I haven't had any incidents of irisitis, which at my younger age is associated with an auto immune disease such as lupis.

The TB test involves injecting 1/10 of 1 cc PPD tuberculin into the fold of skin beside the goat's tail and checking for reaction at the injection site 72 hours later. 1/10 of 1 cc is only two drops of tuberculin. The tuberculin is a purified protein from the bacteria cell wall, not the complete disease causing organism. There is no milk withholding because it doesn't show up in any measurable quantity in the milk.
