Unhappy Something is wrong with Frankie

I'm worried. Frankie is not acting right. Last night he was laying under his house while everyone else was doing the normal looking for attention. That is very odd for him. I looked him over and noticed a trickle of blood on his face...he has 2 scurs...one big that broke off last fall and one that is just a nub and remained a nub. Both were bleeding. The nub just a little. It was not gushing so I left it alone.
This morning when I let them out he was happy to see me and seemed normal. Then about 1/2 hour later we were in the other barn and Flossie and Gretta were playing, eating...acting normal and Frankie was in a dark corner just standing under a hutch. Not normal at all. So I went to the house and got supplies. When I tied him up to look him over he started shaking. In the past when I trim their hooves I tie him up and he never shakes. I took his temp..102.
Cleaned off his head which was quite a battle and didn't see anything except the scur started bleeding again.
He is eating
Normal poop
Didn't see him pee but that doesn't mean he didn't.
no grinding teeth
I'm wondering if he banged his head and is just off because of that? I am probably over reacting but I know he is not himself and I'm worried. What would you guys do?

Minelson, it is entirely possible he got a good womp on the noggin. We have one buck that got into it with another during breeding season and they must have battled pretty good - part of his ear was even severed. He was never "quite right" after that but gets along well enough.

I'd keep an eye on him and watch for seizures. I'm sorry - I don't really know what else to suggest.

I think he might just have a headache, too.

Peanut got a good whomp last fall that broke a scur and he was not himself for two days. He even spent some time snuggled next to me with his head under my arm, which is very unusual for him.

Just keep an eye on him and keep us updated

Thank you. I do have some Banamine..should I give him some of that or is that over kill. I don't know the dosage for goats either. It's funny how it's ok if I'm feeling off..but heaven forbid one of my goats be off!

When my doe knocked her horns off she showed signs of pain for several days... keep a close eye on him... see if he will take some treats.

you can give 1cc under the skin, but not more than once a day and not for more than 3 days straight, is what i was told for my 75lb doe.

I would give him a little Banamine and watch him close. Try and catch him peeing if you can. Can you feel his neck bones and see if anything seems out of place or turned? I had to take a baby ND to a chiropractor once, she had a badly rotated C1 vertebrae; straightened her right up in one visit.
I'm praying for Frankie!!

I did see him pee...normal (whew!) UC is so scary.
I gave him 1cc Banamine. He is still eating and coming for treats. Just acting bummed out. I realized his knocked off scur is worse than I originally thought...he just has the "pulp" sticking out. About 1/2" and the horn part is gone. I'm sure that is painful and probably the cause of his depression. Thanks everyone for your help! I will keep a close eye on him. I just love him so much and hate for him to be in pain...and I'm so paranoid!

My bucks do that every year . They also always get headaches from it. This year I don't think will be as bad because their scurs are just nubbins now. Poor Frankie . I can imagine his poor head is hurting!

If you have an iron you can burn his scur and it will kill the painful nerve endings

Do you have any Fural spray? I know you won't burn him but you might want to spray it since it is exposed and it will keep it cleaner, don't know if you have flies yet but that keeps them out as well.
Hope he is feeling better.

Well, when I got home from work all 3 were out in the rain grazing on the front lawn. I was very surprised to see them out in the rain! Not just drizzle either. So then when I went back out they were in their shed...Frankie was very happy to see me and wanted treats real bad. But then he went under the hutch and just stood there. It looks better than yesterday...not as bloody. I think he is afraid that Flossie or Gretta are going to hurt him...try to head butt or something. Flossie seems to know he is injured because she is acting very sassy. I don't have any spray Fural. I have a lot of different wound ointments for horses. And Neosporin. And Fura-Zone ointment. I'm a little afraid of it getting in his eyes since they are getting wet out in the rain.
The only iron I have is a curling iron and I haven't used that since the 80's

Minelson consider this a get well soon card to Frankie. Sounds like he's feeling better but Flossie needs a good talking to.

glad hes better!
I had never thought of keeping an iron around because I just pay my friend to do the "deed", but then I found one on craigslist that I couldn't pass up. About 3 months after that I had a doe kick when I was trimming her feet. I tried everything to stop the bleeding, after nearly and hour I got the iron heated up and it instantly stopped the bleeding. So my point is that irons arn't just for horns.... Just a thought....
