Very hard labor

My sweet Esmerelda finally kidded today. Sadly, it was a very hard labor. The first thing I saw was a tail. I gave her some time thinking maybe she could deliver breech. She was really straining so I checked to see postion of the baby. I could not figure out what I was feeling... had my wonderful neighbor come down that has had goats for many years. He took a long while trying to figure out the position. Turns out the head and butt were together. After a lot of time and effort he managed to turn the baby... she came out front first, not diving but sunny side up. Little doe is doing great but my poor doe. She is so swollen and really doesn't want to move around.

What is my best course to take to prevent infection? Anything I can do for her to lessen the swelling?

I have known this info before but it's just been too stressful of an evening, my head is spinning

Sorry for your situation, and glad the baby is okay. For mama, I would start a course of antibiotics immediately. She's sure to get an infection after all the rummaging around inside. I had a similar situation, and used Nuflor for four (maybe it was five) days in a row. Both does are fine now.

Also, as kidding = major stress, please don't forget to worm her.

I hope someone more experienced comes along with expert info.

I feel for you. i just had my best doe deliver a baby head and rear foot first. It took me a WHILE to figure out why that baby wasn't just coming out LOL All those little hooves can kinda look the same when you are stressed. Everyone is well though. I know your girls will pull through just fine.
