A baby who was normal but after being taken off his dam and put on a bottle is getting stiff?? I've never heard of that either.
What is she feeding him?? Does he have scours?? How old is he??

No my either. But, says she took him off because the doe couldn't feed 3 so she figured she'd take the little buck and feed him goat milk from another goat. But, says she forgot to make sure he had his first milk from his mom. I don't know what to tell her to do. No he hasn't got the scours(little berrys).
I really think it's to far gone to do anything. It want stand on its on anymore. I just found out this and thought i'd let you know. I just can hope that there is something we could do for him. I know the feeling to loss a baby. But, this baby is several days old I think 5-7 days she told me.? I can't remember.

White muscle disease?????
I have never seen it, no idea at all, but found this:
http://www.sheepandgoat.com/articles/WMD.html

Quote:
Symptoms
All breeds of sheep and goats are suceptible to WMD, and the condition may develop under extensive or intensive management systems. WMD is most commonly found in newborns or fast growing animals. Kids are believed to be more susceptible than lambs, possibly because they have a higher requirement for selenium. The disease can affect both the skeletal and cardiac muscles.

When the skeletal muscles are affected, symptoms vary from mild stiffness to obvious pain upon walking, to an inability to stand. Lambs/kids may tremble in pain when held in a standing position. A stiff gait and hunched appearance are common. Affected lambs/kids may remain bright and have normal appetites, but eventually they become too weak to nurse. When the problem occurs in newborns, they are born weak and unable to rise. Sudden exercise may trigger the condition in older lambs and kids.

Can you get a temp on him?
How much will he take from the bottle?

Yes, I would certainly give him a Bo-Se shot if he hasn't had one.
But if he didn't get his colostrum.....its unlikely he will make it. So important.
I really can't think of anything else. I'm sorry.

jBlaze, I think you hit it right on the nail. But, can you save him? He will take maybe a ounce or 2 at a time. I'm not sure if she took temp yet tho. She told me he was kind of warm in her arms. But, I know that's no way to tell but asked to take his temp.

As Emily said, give the BoSe for the WMD. I don't know how much to treat. Is it possible that he did get some colustrum (even if not much)? How are the other 2 kids doing? I would definitely give them the BoSe too, if he is selenium deficient, they are too, maybe not as stressed though, so not as visible.
How big is he? If he is only taking an ounce or two, he should be fed every couple of hours.
I wish I could help more, but i have never dealt with that.
(I am more inclined to make sure I give mine the BoSe though after reading that!)

I give the Bo_Se shot as soon as they are born..not even dry yet.. about 1/2cc each kid. might want to give that much and check with vet. I give the does a shot of Bo-Se about a month before kidding so you might need a bit more..but give the 1/2cc now..sure wouldn't hurt and the mothers milk too. Good Luck
