How soon after deworming can I expect weight recovery?

One of my goats has lost a lot of weight, though he is just as lively as ever. I wormed both goats with Positive Pellets. When can I expect to see if it did the job and he begins to fill out again?

Unless you know what worms you are fighting..... you will not see any recovery, because positive pellets do not kill most of the worms goats fight.

Really? I looked at all the ones which were available at the feed store, and they all seemed to work on the same squiggly critters.

i agree. I use Ivomec plus and that gets rid of the liver flukes. Nothing else does. It will still take awhile for the goat to put the weight back on. It also depends on if you feed them grain.

Well, they say they are supposed to work on them but most of the older dewormers that are actually labeled for goats have been so over/mis-used that there is now a major resistance problem.

I agree with NBF - may not have any effect at all. I would get a fecal done so that you know what breed of worm(s) you are trying to get rid of and use a wormer that is effective for them. Ivermectin, moxidectin, etc.

Usually not too much. Anyhow, it is cheaper than giving womers that are not targeting the parasites that are present. Good idea to use a vet that does GOAT fecals.
Good luck.

Valbazen is supposed to get liver flukes also. And Levamisole, although I have never used it.

I don't know about vet costs in your area, but fecals are usually pretty cheap, especially around here.

Right now, I'm on the lookout for a used, low-price but decent microscope so I can do my own fecals. It's really not that complicated; I did them back in the olden days when I was a vet tech. You can save yourself time and money if you learn to do your own.
