MRSA and staph mastitis?

I don't know much about staph mastitis, but today an incident brought up a question for all y'all. My next door neighbor's 21-month old daughter was admitted to the hospital 2 days before Easter with a horrible MRSA infection that literally blew up in 12 hours. They left their 10-year old daughter with us for the week. Despite being careful, the spider bite I thought I had on Easter morning, ended up being diagnosed as MRSA today. I waited a week to go to the ER, being SURE it was a spider bite, until my entire arm swelled up (yes, absolutely dumb of me,but I HATE the doctors, and I don't allow myself to get sick-I won't be that cavalier ever again). Anyhow, the infection is on the inside of my wrist and is responding very well to the horse pill I'm taking twice a day. I keep it covered, and wash my hands constantly. Well, in talking with the vet today, I asked her if MRSA could transfer to a goat. I was pretty sure she'd say no. She didn't. She said staph isn't necessarily specific... she said she'd do some research on it and had some articles she was going to run for me. I'm milking a nice little boer cross doe right now and getting 1/2 a gallon a day. I'd hate to spread a staph infection to her. Any thoughts out there?

Oh my! I hope everyone is ok!
As far as your doe, I'd say wear gloves, the disposable ones. when you milk her throw on your gloves before hand then throw them away. Try to keep yourself covered up as much as possible. If I was in your shoes I'd probably even try to wear gloves when feeding or doing anything with them. Staph is not fun stuff in any species. Good luck and I hope you and everyone thats sick feel better!

Vitamin D is said to be pretty effective at helping with staph / MRSA. Get yourself some sun - expose large chunks of skin, without sunscreen - or take oral vitamin D. Oregano oil and tea tree oil are also said to be good for topical application. A buddy of mine had major staph infection and almost lost his hand. (had wrist surgery, then the staph blew up 6 months later for no reason). He was taking upwards of 20,000 iu of vitamin D while in the hospital on IV antibiotics. Doctor said it really started turning around when he started the vitamin D.

Sorry for the hijack, just wanted to share info to keep YOU healthy!

Thanks for the advice; I will definitely use the gloves and try the vitamin D. Yep, MRSA is freaky scary...I haven't had a staph infection since I was a kid and this one came on soooooo fast.
