Help, is this normal labor?

Im not sure if we have a problem or not, but another of our does started what we thought was labor around 3pm. She had about a pencil size in diameter of thick mucus stuff hanging down to the ground and was restles pacing, pawing and laying down getting back up type behaviour. This has continued all afternoon and know its after 7pm and we are getting worried. She still has the mucus hanging down which falls off occasionly and is replaced by more and is still occasionly pacing and pawing but does not seem to be in any hard labor. We checked and the water bag is still intack several inches in but no other changes. Should we be worried? our other does have gone really fast so this seems like a problem. Suggestions, pleas help.

Has she been pushing or not? FF or experienced doe?

Do you feel feet in that bag? Make sure they are front feet (facing down, of course babies can come out rear first if they have to, but make sure not to let the umbilical get pulled) and that the nose is behind them (sometimes you can have a head of one baby and feet of another, so always a good idea to check that they are both coming from the same baby!).

Yes, I would try to see what is behind that water bubble asap. You *could* be dealing with a back or hip presentation, two kids at the same time, etc. In those cases, the does body tells her something is wrong and signals her not to go into active labour(hard pushing) until it is fixed. So she will act disturbed and a bit distressed, but you may not see actual pushing. So if it was me, I'd make sure you have feet and nose from the same kid presenting.

Too Long for me. I would wash the arm and go in, you may have someone positioned incorrectly and your doe needs some help.

Does not seem to be pushing hard, not like the other does when they where pushing the babies out. This is her third kidding and she is a pretty large frame animal. Only thing felt was the front of the bag no feet or anything else. Should you be able to feel feet with the bag in the way? Have the laptop in the barn so where checking right know for feet.

You need to go in further than the bag, past the cervix and feel around. I was actually elbow deep in one of mine who presented with a slow labor like your girl and had 3 feet, 2 heads it was confusing and took me a good 30 minutes to straighten things out and to get the first one delivered.

When Candy did that I went in and could only feel ribs. I did not have the strength or the help to push this big buckling around so I had to call the vet to do it. She had triplets and everything turned out good.

Sounds like someone is stuck in there. Deep Breath. Your not going to hurt her but she needs some help. Good Luck.

Thank you all for all the fast replys and advice! I am very impressed with this forum. The problem was two large bucks wanting out, both with one front foot tucked back. It took quite abit of pulling to get them out, maybe the mother didnt dilate all the way. The mother and both boys are doing great. Once again thanks for the help!

woops sorry for all the spelling errors. I was having to type standing on a stone fence by our barn so the laptop would reach.
