Doe ate the pritchard nipple

When I had my back turned, Trub decided she was going to check out the milk bottles with the nipples on them.

Of course, she bit the darned thing right off.

I know that it's probably all right and that she'll be just fine, but still...

Will someone please reassure me that of COURSE this isn't the first time a goat has bitten off a hunk of rubber and swallowed it, and that she's not going to have any problems?

Thanks.

Had 2 do that last year as bottle babies. They both are still fine, I've seen no sign of the nipples though...

Pony, I had a month old bottle kid swallow an *entire orange catheter tube* that I was tubing her with when she was sick. I kid you not, the tube was as long as the entire kid, from nose to tail. I freaked, totally sure she had only hours to live. She was better by the next day. Never slowed down after that.
This was over 6 years ago. I just lost that doe to kidding issues last year......never did see the tube again. Vet said her stomach acids would eventually dissolve it.
And no, I AM NOT advocating feeding a sick kid a catheter to cure her.

How is Trubs tribe doing? I weighed Candy's yesterday to start their corid and was happy to see that they had each gained over 10 lbs in the 3 weeks. The buckling, Heath, weighed 23 lbs! I also get 4 lbs of milk from Candy once a day without separating them.

And all these years I keep telling folks that "Goats don't eat anything & that it's just an old wives tale" !! I think Yours & Minelson's are the exceptions to the rule Pony!

Well, since my goats are from Emily's herd...

Nick and I were talking about sort of changing Many Troubles' name. Instead of "Troubles" or "Trub," we're thinking of calling her "Minnie" (sort of sounds like "Many").

Then maybe she'll stop doing silly stuff.

Yeah.

Right.

OK, I'll be sure and feed our sick kids plastic tubing now, thanks for the tip!!

Whoa! 23 pounds? That's a half-grown buck, not a little bitty buckling!

I have no idea how much Trub's Tribe weighs. (But I believe I'll be calling them "Trub's Tribe" from now on.)

I do know, however, that they are becoming more difficult to lift, and that they are much taller when standing next to Trub.

ETA: I mean, they are taller than they used to be. They are not taller than Trub.

I'm bottle feeding to supplement, getting between 3 quarts and a gallon per morning milking. (No, I don't weigh the milk, either. I use canning jars and guesstimate. You'd think I have an unhealthy relationship with scales or something...)
