Buck losing hair

My three year old buck has always had a beautiful coat but recently he isn't looking too great. He has a large patch (about the size of my hand) of hair loss behind one shoulder. He has a much smaller spot on his opposite side. At first I thought he may have rubbed it off but I don't think so. Anyone know what could cause this? Thanks!

Could be several things..ringworm,parasites,or depending on your weather rain rot. If it is a fungle then they have a spray that is pink or you can use iodine. If a parasite then use cylence pour on.

Could be lice. I use DE on my goats for lice & mites. Is the skin all scaly and flaky there??

I believe that is lice. Frankie had a spot like that too and lots of flakes. I have been sprinkling them with the DE...rubbing it in. I also have been putting MTG on Frankies spot in hopes that the hair will grow back faster. His is about the size of a 1/2 dollar coin.

Can you usually see the lice though? When my buck got what I think was mites, the skin looks really kinda scaley & scabby, I rubbed Ivermectin horse paste wormer on those areas after cleaning it with the M-T-G that minelson is talking about.

Can you post a picture of the biggest or worse area? That may help figure it out but not sure. I posted a picture when I had a problem similar & folks here helped me determine Mites was most likely the culprit.

I never saw any actual bugs on Frankie...maybe it is mites. Or was mites...how can you tell when they are gone?

Lice are rarely visible to the naked eye unless it is a *REALLY* bad infestation.

I used the ivermectin paste & M-T-G on the affected area about every other day & within 2 weeks the skin was back to normal & the hair was starting to grow back. It's only happened twice here & on 2 different goats & different years but both times were between Febuary & April it seems like.

The skin on mine was really kinda flakey/crusty though.

I will get a picture of him tomorrow and see if I remember how to post pics on here! He has a couple more small spots of hair loss... my boy is looking pretty shabby I feel bad I didn't get to town this weekend to see what Tractor Supply had (busy getting ready for kids in the barn) but I will be going tomorrow. Thank you for your replies.

He doesn't look as flaky anymore. This is the largest spot. He has another spot on his other side in the same place, about the size of a 50 cent piece.

If my goat had that I would put 7% iodine on it in case it was a fungus. I've never had a goat or dog with a bald patch not grow hair back with the iodine. I put it on every other day for 3-4 treatments.

Are the hairs in the center of the bald patch broken or just short / growing in? Looks like rubbing to me. A little MTG will never hurt, though.
