Sick Kid....going downhill fast
One of our kids (a bottle baby), approximately 3 mos. old (and of course, one of our favorites) is going downhill fast. He was fine early yesterday, but later in the day and today he has been going downhill. Very listless, tooth grinding, does not want to stand up, foaming at the mouth, drooling. No diarrhea or vomiting, no fever, not bloated. Was still eating yesterday, just nibbling. I got some Power Punch down him today and gave him a shot of BoSe, since his mother has WMD. Just don't know what else to do for him. Most of our goats are healthy and we have not had to deal with much sickness.

Could easily be pnuemonia, but he should have a fever.......what is his temp?? If it is pnuemonia I give banamine, Nuflor and vitamin C.
Could also be enterotoxemia.......again, what his his temp?? Entero causes sub-normal temps. Not all Entero causes visually obvious bloating.
If he grinding his teeth, I would give him banamine right away no matter what. That and drooling is a sign of pain.

There is a form of pneumonia going through several herds that doesn't present with a fever. Banamine and LA200 or Baytril was the recommended treatment.
I would be worried that the dam had WMD since that usually affects young kids shortly after birth. What are moms symptoms?

he has the right age for entero. 20 cc cd antitoxin from TSC. 1/3 injected in the left side, 1/3 in the right side last third oral. 3cc penicillin orally. banamine to ease the pain.
how do his lower eyelid look like? entero and it will be almost white. same with his gum. his mouth will feel cold inside. very classic symptoms
if you loose him, do yourself a favor and cut him open. if it was entero, you will find blood in his small intestine.

Is 20 cc correct, that is a lot of medication.

Yes, that is correct. If it is entero, treatment needs to be fast and furious. My vet also reccomends giving another 10 cc's orally on top of the 20 cc's SQ.

Lost the little one
Well, I thank all of you for your help, but we lost the little one this morning. We have not run into this type of problem before and would like to know what causes entero. Is there a preventative? Again, thanks for all help given.

I'm sorry you lost him. Did you confirm by looking at the intestine?

OMGosh.. Im so sorry.. I have a couple questions.. what was the baby eating in the bottles? And had the baby pooped? Many times people don;t realize how very vital pooping is and once an enema is given things start to move in the digestive system and all is well- this combined with the CD Antitoxin injections..for possible enterotoxemia.. And further.. (I always get rebuttals on this) if the kid was on any type of milk replacer .. this very well could be the cause of the digestive upset to begin with. I have articles on my website for both giving baby goats enemas and also bottle feeding baby goats
At 3 moths of age cocci and wormload also should be considered. As well as figuring in new feed- a 3 month old is eating more solids than before this alone can cause digestive upset.. teeth grinding is associated with gut pain most typically. I'm so very sorry.. it is Always a favorite it seems ..
These articles may help in the future.
Baby goat enema
Bottle feeding
understanding baby goat digestion
deworming article
cocci
Im so very sorry

I am so sorry you lost the little one, it's awfully hard & worse when it's your favorite. Sending Hug's.
I would also keep Susanne's phone number, I think she is pretty close to where you are & very knowledgable in goats.
I do have a question though, what is WMD stand for?
